There are rumors his father was a traveling luchador and accidentally left him behind after one of his matches. A pack of coyotes found him and raised him as their own. Scheduled for May 4—May the Fourth Be With You, after all—the bicyclist-meet-brewery space-themed event brings together cyclists and craft beer enthusiasts to “tour our ever-expanding local ‘brewiverse.'”
McFate Brewing Acquires the Rights to Fate Brewing Name

After an arduous legal battle and three years later, McFate Brewing Company in Scottsdale, Arizona is getting their name back. Fate.
If you are unfamiliar with the story, back in 2016, Fate Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado filed suit against then Fate Brewing Company in Scottsdale, Arizona for the rights to the name. Fate Brewing Company in Scottsdale was forced to rebrand to McFate, even though the two breweries had co-existed for more than three years under the same name. The reaction to the lawsuit by fans of both breweries was swift, with an outpouring of support for McFate and an overwhelming resentment toward Fate Brewing Company.

Record Number of Breweries Participate in the Austin Area Brew Day

Female beer professionals from all over the Austin, TX area came together in February and March to participate in the annual Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day. Held every year in honor of International Women’s Day, Pink Boots members from around the world team up to brew a beer of their choice using the unique YCH Hops Pink Boots blend; a portion of the proceeds benefit the Pink Boots Society scholarship funds.
Three Weavers Brewing Company Crafts Special Beers for the Alita Expereince

A new immersive pop-up experience, Alita: Battle Angel – Passport to Iron City is now open in Austin, Los Angeles and New York City to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated Robert Rodriguez film Alita: Battle Angel. During the experience, guests can explore the film’s futuristic world Iron City, which has been recreated down to the last detail to include the Kansas bar where guests can enjoy an exclusive beer from Three Weavers Brewing Company out of Inglewood, California. Each city will feature a beer crafted specifically for that city, along with other beers from the brewery.
I caught up with founder Lynne Weaver and brewmaster Alexandra Nowell to find out how the collaboration came about.

Interstate Adventure on a Spontaneous Ale in the American Southwest

A mutual love for beer first connected John Rowley of Rowley Farmhouse Ales in Santa Fe and Eric Erman of Ermanos Craft Beer & Wine Bar in Tucson over a decade ago. And the spirit of collaboration also connected them with fellow funk enthusiasts Matt Brown of Tombstone Brewing Company and Rob Hammelman of Sand-Reckoner Vineyards to collaboratively create a Spontaneous Ale that features the terroir of Cochise County in Arizona using only local ingredients.

An upcoming brewpub in central Austin, Hold Out is spearheaded by brewers Mark Stowe and Brent Sapstead. Brent is the former head brewer and production manager of Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas. On Saturday, November 3, Hold Out Brewing threw a preview event hosted by their soon-to-be neighbors, Better Half Coffee and Cocktail Bar. Guests could sample four beers from Hold Out Brewing or purchase two different collaboration beers from Hold Out Brewing and Austin Beerworks.

Davis Tucker is one of the OGs of the Austin craft beer scene, originally brewing the Pecan Street Lager through a contract brewing arrangement with Shiner back in the late 1980s. He went on to open the original Copper Tank Brewery, but left that partnership shortly after, “I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to go out on my own,” he said. In September of 1999 he established North by Northwest Restaurant and Brewery (NXNW) and it remains the longest standing brewpubs in the city.
