November 8, 2019 | Justin PennelAs usual, the crew here at PorchDrinking.com is drinking some great beers this week. You can definitely tell we’re entering the holiday season based off the beers we’re drinking. I think you can make any beer work for just about any occasion, but there are some that perfect for certain times of the year. Here’s What We’re Drinking. Read More
North By Northwest Brewery | Zombie Dragon IPA
September 24, 2018 | Pam CatoeDavis Tucker is one of the OGs of the Austin craft beer scene, originally brewing the Pecan Street Lager through a contract brewing arrangement with Shiner back in the late 1980s. He went on to open the original Copper Tank Brewery, but left that partnership shortly after, “I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to go out on my own,” he said. In September of 1999 he established North by Northwest Restaurant and Brewery (NXNW) and it remains the longest standing brewpubs in the city.
Ultimate 6er | SXSW Craft Beer
March 17, 2018 | Pam CatoeSXSW is coming to a close; however, the music fest is in full swing. Unfortunately the fest is sponsored by Budweiser, but don’t let that discourage you – almost every official (and unofficial) venue is a popular Austin bar, club or music venue. Here are the six staple craft beers that you are bound to find around SXSW.
Independence Brewing Company | Cowboys from Helles
February 21, 2018 | Pam CatoeAustin-based Independence Brewing Company just announced the release of their newest seasonal — a Munich-style Lager inspired by Pantera’s “Cowboys from Hell.” According to head brewer Brannon Radicke, “We listened to a lot of Pantera while making that beer, so it’s kind of infused with that attitude.”

Celis Brewery | Celis White
August 31, 2017 | Pam CatoeJuly is one of the hottest months in Texas, but back on July 11 people from all over Austin flocked to get in line for the grand reopening of an Austin legend, Celis Brewery. Anticipation had been building for months when founder Christine Celis, daughter of world renowned Belgian Brewmaster, Pierre Celis, announced the return of Austin’s first craft brewery a little over a year ago.

Recently they released Axis IPA, a brand new mainstay that highlights its ability to continually innovate and produce a wide array of styles. I caught up with head brewer, Schmitty, to find out more about the new release.
Ultimate 6er | Austin Breweries to Try at GABF
September 29, 2016 | Pam CatoeThe problem with Austin beers is that most of them never make it out of the state, (unless you have a good beer mail connection), due to the sheer size of the state and the ravenous consumption here. Several Austin breweries will be pouring at GABF this year and many of them are pouring beers that you can rarely even get in Austin. So get your pencils ready and mark down these Austin staples on your list of must-try beers!

Independence Brewing Company | Austin Amber Ale
May 13, 2016 | Kara Loo and Kelissa HieberABV 4.9%
Nugget, Delta hops
We must preface this beer with a short story: In October 2014 we flew to Austin for vacation. Upon arrival, we Ubered straight to a lunch spot that was also, coincidentally, a brewery (The ABGB, for those wondering, where the food, beer and hospitality were all awesome). Sitting at the bar, we talked with another patron, John, who works at Independence Brewing Company. John had just recently returned from GABF in Denver, and we all became enthusiastic about our shared love of the Denver beer scene. Out of nowhere, he graciously offered to give us a tour of Independence’s facilities later on. We told him we’d see him there and parted ways, already feeling great about our first impression of Austin. Read More
Jester King Brewery | Bière de Miel
January 22, 2016 | Holly Gerard
ABV: 6.1% | IBU: 26
Jester King Brewery is one of those American breweries that always seems to be making big waves in the beer world. Their unique spins on Belgian and wild styles and their limited availability makes them always in hidemand for die hard fans. Thankfully, I was in Austin, Texas for the first time this past summer and was able to finally try them out in person at their stunning ranch-like brewery and tasting room. On the toasty summer day that it was, I sampled Bière de Miel for the first time and decided to bring a bottle back home with me.
