Ultimate 6er | The 94th Academy Awards
March 23, 2022 | Scott JohnsonAs the world of cinema returned to normalcy, the buzz and attention centered on the Academy Awards remained debatable as ever! Though if there’s one lesson the industry learned from the last few years, it’s that putting the biggest award hopefuls on all the streaming services is the best way to keep the attention of the people! This year’s Academy Awards is a very diverse selection of films with some clear favorites, some unexpected surprises, and schismatic choices depending on which passionate film critic you talk to.
Thankfully at PorchDrinking, we don’t neglect all the choices available. We want to enshrine these films with incredible experiences! So kick back and engage in the visual and brewing arts!
Ultimate 6er | The Forgotten Ones
June 9, 2021 | Seth GarlandWith the deadline for this article looming and no fresh beer in the fridge, it seemed to be a good chance to round up some of the forgotten-about beers lying around the house and give them a new chance at life. We all have them: beers we got as gifts that aren’t our usual style; leftovers from a party ca. 2019; a few dusties that got buried in the garage fridge; treasures that grew legs and hid themselves out of sight.
Wherever they come from, and for whatever reasons they remain shelved, it’s time to give some love to the forgotten fridge beers as we clear out some space for summer sippin’.
Ultimate 6er | Beers for Star Wars: A New Hope
December 11, 2019 | Andrew HolcombeWith the Star Wars Saga coming to a close this December, a re-watch of all eight Skywalker films— plus the two spin off movies—seems like the only reasonable way to kick off the finale (at least for this nerd it DEFINITELY is). While watching the 20+ hours of force-filled, wipe-transitioned, Lucas-inspired action you may well be inclined to drink a beer (or six).
If you’ve got a bad feeling about this, or you just don’t have time to watch all those movies before the Episode IX, then try starting with the original film, Episode IV: A New Hope. This is a great jumping off point—after all, it’s where this whole story started. Avoid the who-shot-first argument (it was Han, people, it just was) by assembling the best six pack to share with your friends while you watch the lamest lightsaber fight in Star Wars history. These beers are not only representative of the characters, but ones that each person might enjoy drinking after a long day of space travel and saving the galaxy. Read More
Christmas Classics | Avery Brewing Old Jubilation Ale
December 10, 2019 | Jereme ZimmermanAt 8.3% ABV, “Old Jube” (as the folks at Avery Brewing like to refer to their Old Jubilation Ale) is strong and rich, but not overwhelming. Not a typical heavily spiced Winter Ale (it actually has no spices), it is rich, dark and malt-forward. Because of the avoidance of spices, the malts really get to shine. With a combination of five specialty malts (Two Row Barley, Honey, Bonlander Munich, Chocolate and Black), we get a flavor that is rich, velvety and a bit fruity.

Adam Avery on the Decision to Sell a Minority Stake to Mahou San Miguel
November 29, 2017 | Tristan ChanYesterday Avery Brewing Company announced that it would be selling a minority stake, in the range of 30%, to family-owned Spanish brewing group, Mahou San Miguel. Recently celebrating their 24th anniversary, Avery Brewing has served as a pioneer in the art of barrel-aged and high gravity beers.
The news of yesterday’s partnership immediately drew a wide range of reactions and speculation from beer fanatics, so we decided to catch up with Adam Avery, who alongside his father Larry founded Avery in 1993.

October 18, 2017 | Tristan ChanFor the past three years, Avery Brewing has taken GABF booth displays to the next level. Not only does their’s booth look and feel like you’re in a barrel-aging facility, but the Avery team carts in and stacks filled barrels for timed releases, where attendants actually pull nails in order to pour beer straight from the source.

Beer Showcase | Avery Brewing Ginger Sour
August 4, 2017 | Mathew PowersAugust 5, 2017 marks 24 years of brewing for Avery Brewing. To commemorate the achievement, Avery released Twenty Four Imperial IPA — a stellar beer, to be sure. But, the biggest news emerging from the Boulder-based brewery in 2017 involved its decision to substantially alter the beer portfolio by saying goodbye to old standbys and instead concentrating more on barrel aging. Hence, it behooved us at PorchDrinking to look at one of its latest Botanical & Barrel releases, Ginger Sour, while simultaneously raising our pint glasses and exclaiming, “Happy Anniversary, Avery!”

Colorado’s Newest Generation of Sour Brewers Shine at Avery’s 7th Annual SourFest
June 30, 2017 | Eric Gorski 1Kyle Carbaugh had no designs on brewing sour beer when he and his wife, Miranda, opened Wiley Roots Brewing in Greeley four years ago. Their best-known beer early on was about as old-school craft beer basic as you can get — an American-style wheat. It won a Great American Beer Festival bronze medal just a few months after the brewery poured its first pint.

As golfers worry about picking the right club, fans must be sure to pick the right beer. So, let us be your beer caddy.
Elite Eight | Barleywine Style
March 27, 2017 | Samantha StoryI’ll be real honest with everyone, I don’t know much about basketball. I do, however, appreciate the fanfare and competitiveness of March Madness. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve heard of people describing, in depth, how well their bracket was doing or how it became “busted.” If I had created a bracket, mine would most definitely rank last.
