Avery Brewing | Hog Heaven, Tequilana and Beer Camp
March 8, 2017 | Mathew PowersOne thing for which no one can accuse Avery Brewing is resting on its laurels or being behind the times. From altering its own portfolio and removing some fan favorites to changing the name of its own beer (read on), Avery refuses to stand still and risk the craft-beer world passing it by. Avery is reintroducing its red ale to the world in a new way, and in new cans; it’s throwing some beer in tequila barrels; and Avery is going to have a little fun at Beer Camp, too.
Event Recap | Avery’s 15th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Fest Showcases Innovation
March 6, 2017 | Tristan ChanNo matter the pedigree or esteem, for a beer festival to continue to thrive in today’s crowded beer landscape after 15 years of existence, it must be able to evolve, and iterate. Steeped in tradition, and rich in popularity, Avery’s Boulder Strong Ale Fest has found a way to remain one of the elite mid-sized festivals in the country by showcasing innovation in beer both internally and through the industry friends they invite each year.
Pour List | 15th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Fest
February 28, 2017 | Tristan ChanOver the past 15 years, Avery Brewing Company has practically written the book on brewery-run niche festivals. Dating back to their original location in the humble alley of Arapahoe Ave, and now spanning three bar stations and an outdoor tent lineup in their two year old $30 million facility in Gunbarrel, Avery has mastered the art of attracting rare beers from top tier breweries, as well as showcasing their own oft unseen or hard to acquire wonders at such events.

Ultimate 6er | Christmas Cookie & Beer Pairings
December 14, 2016 | Holly GerardIt’s that time of year again for Christmas Cookie and Beer Pairings! Our first edition of this pairing theme kicked off last year as you may remember, and I was very excited to bring it back for a second time this year. I was torn between sticking to all American brews for this year’s edition or if I should add some of those fantastic Belgian Christmas Ales in the mix, but then decided that this year’s version should be strictly All-American. There were definitely some great options for pairing. Also, just like last year, I did some homemade cookies and some store-bought for those of you that like to bake and for those of you that would prefer not to. Now let’s get on to the goods!
Ultimate 6er | Mountain Town Beers
December 8, 2016 | Holly PriestleyI’m one of those people who has always felt at home in mountains. Some people feel at home in the water, some in the city, some on the farm. For me, I feel more at ease and a bit of nostalgia even if I’m in mountains I’ve never visited before. In the summer, I like to hike and backpack and in the winter I snowboard – in any season, a refreshing beer is a great way to cap off an adventurous day! Luckily, here in Colorado it seems that every small town has it’s own brewery or at least a taphouse to find some delicious drafts.
Avery Brewing Discontinues Dictator Series in 2017, Expands Barrel Program
November 22, 2016 | Mathew PowersFrom IPA to BBA, craft beer continues to evolve, and Colorado’s Avery Brewing is unafraid to ride that wave of transformation and help influence its direction. In 2017, Avery Brewing will offer fans far more fermented pleasures from its Botanicals & Barrels series, as well as a add to its year-round selections. While that is exciting news for many fans of Avery, it comes with a price — a few long time favorites will have to be retired.
Avery Brewing | The Beast Oak Aged Grand Cru Ale
October 21, 2016 | Mathew PowersVincent Price warned us all, but nothing can stop Avery Brewing from unleashing The Beast upon the beer-drinking world. It is big. It is bold. It is even a little frightening. It lurks in the depths of Avery’s brewhouse, ready to pounce on nearby taste buds. The Beast doesn’t just dominate the palate, it devours it… and you will love it.
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’all’s neighborhood
Cooking with Beer | Kaiser Butternut Squash Soup
October 20, 2016 | Chelsea MitchellIt’s the middle of October, the shelves are filled with gourdy beers and the temperatures are falling outside. If there’s one thing I love about fall evenings, it’s sitting inside and stuffing my face full of delicious treats. On this particular day, I decided butternut squash soup would be the perfect meal to accompany my Netflix binge-sesh. This ain’t your run of the mill butternut squash soup either – I filled it with apples, fennel, onions and garlic. To give it an extra kick, I tossed in a good amount of Kaiser – an Imperial Oktoberfest Lager by Avery Brewing that is chock full of festive spices. The final product is finished with a balsamic reduction drizzle and a few sourdough croutons. Make this meal, cuddle up on the couch, and never leave your house again.

Ultimate 6er | Refreshing Summer Sippers
June 29, 2016 | Jenn SpecketerThere’s a lot going on this week friends. Of course, it’s Shark Week! Olympic trials in swimming, track and field and gymnastics have started. And my favorite holiday is less than a week away. That’s right, Independence Day is my favorite holiday! I look forward to it each and every year. To me, the Fourth of July signifies everything that makes summer amazing. Yes, it’s a day to celebrate our Independence and the birth of Democracy. But it’s also a day to soak up those special moments spent with friends and family into the wee hours of the evening, enjoying cold brew after cold brew as you kick back, relax and take in all that is summertime. (The Fourth of July also kicks off what I call my “birthday week” which culminates on 7-11. Gifts of craft beer are always appreciated! ) Read More

Ultimate 6er | Alliterative Ales
March 11, 2015 | Brady AkersI’m incredibly intrigued and enamored by alliteration. Rapid repetition rewards readers, requires readiness and reaps reward. Wow, it is tough to keep that up. With so many beers that have incredibly creative names, I thought I would focus on breweries that utilized my favorite stylistic literary device. I’ll allow my inner word-nerd to come out to say that alliteration has multiple forms, but I am going to focus on the repeated sound of the first consonant in a series of words. While I would love to put Founders Peter Piper Peppered Pale Ale on my list, I was not fortunate enough to try this taproom-only creation from a few years back.
