Event Preview | 2020 Brewbies Festival
February 6, 2020 | Jadon FloresOf all of the beer events that are out there today, only a handful are as important and meaningful and well as educational as Brewbies. Started just about 11 years ago by Melanie (Mel) Pierce, it was the idea to help the community become more educated about breast cancer and checking for early signs while you get to support research foundations fight against the big C. (while of course drinking some rad brews!)
2020 Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines External Events Roundup
January 9, 2020 | Karen MillsThe Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines Festival will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with their 2020 event this year. Over the years, the festival has grown to extend beyond the walls of the Commercial Tasting event, much like what happens each year with GABF. Now, the town of Breckenridge plays host to an assortment of events the week of Big Beers. So, we decided to help round-up everything happening outside of the festival itself. While you’re planning your weekend in Breckenridge, be sure to also check out the 2020 Big Beers 20th Reunion Special Pours and our breakdown of the Commercial Tasting Pour List.
The End of San Diego Beer Week 2019
November 18, 2019 | Jadon FloresSunday November 10th’s festivities at Arroyo Terrace of the Lodge at Torrey Pines were the close of this year’s San Diego Beer Week. There were a variety of events at breweries across San Diego to celebrate this year’s event, as well.
The beer scene has changed in San Diego, but the local guild tries to make sure to maintain a “we’re all in this together” community. I discussed some of the reasons why guilds are important to the local brewing scene with San Diego Guild President Matthew Zirpolo.
Beer Event | Collabapalooza Recap
October 22, 2019 | Jadon FloresThis past weekend was one of the most highly rated beer festivals in Southern California: Collabapalooza. The ethos of the beer festival is a sense of community within the beer industry–in most cases, all of the breweries involved were friends with each other and the brewers were all trying each other’s beer while talking shop. As we got to talk to several breweries in the preview article on the beers they were bringing, we got to experience the selection of a ridiculous tap list contributed by all the breweries. Here are some standouts.
Levante Brewing Company | Cut the Cake
June 7, 2019 | Lora KormosThe beer scene in Philadelphia is alive and thriving. Almost every neighborhood has a brewery, along with its suburbs. Nestled in the suburbs, about an hour outside of Philadelphia, lays West Chester. Known for its historical sites, for being the home of the QVC Studio, and a variety of restaurants, shops and parks, this quaint Pennsylvania town is worth a visit.

Collaboration Fest 2019: It Takes Two To Make A Brew Go Right
March 21, 2019 | Jaclyn Menendez 1Like most good friendships, Denver’s Collaboration Festival has only gotten better with age. This past weekend we celebrated its sixth year with over 100 creative and delicious collaborations amongst 200+ different breweries. The rules for participation were as laidback as the festival vibe itself: each beer needed to be a collaboration between at least two breweries, and at least one brewery in the team needed to be a member of the Colorado Brewer’s Guild. Beyond that, the sky was the limit.
Metropolitan Brewing Celebrates 10 Years of Business in the Increasingly Competitive Chicago Market
January 17, 2019 | Taylor LaabsChicago and the surrounding area are currently home to the most breweries in the nation. It’s an especially impressive stat when you realize that the market hasn’t really been around for that long. Being able to create a successful brewery during the early growth period of the Chicago market and then stay equally successful amongst growing competition across every neighborhood in the city is an impressive feat that deserves a bit of praise. It’s not easy, but Metropolitan Brewing has managed to do it, which is why their upcoming 10 Year Anniversary celebration this Saturday is so exciting.

It’s me, Cory Pellicle, on top of all things beer (see what I did there?) for this week here in the Denver area. I’m filling in for Jeremy while he is out on vacay. He is probably skulling coldies right now and hiking hills and doing all kinds of other ill shit. Well deserved, Jeremy, well deserved.
But don’t worry! Jeremy will be back next week and we will be continuing to flesh out the 2017 GABF calendar. We just put up a shipload of events. Go peep ’em out, beer nerds. And keep coming back for more GABF coverage on the site!
