August 28, 2019 | Eric GriffinLabor Day is unfortunately overlooked as a day most people are just happy to be off work. The irony of it is that the first Monday of September represents those same hardworking Americans. All of the social and economic achievements of American workers deserve acknowledgment, and Labor Day is a humble way of thanking and serving tribute to a history of hard work and positive contribution towards a stronger, more prosperous nation.

Austin Street Brewery | Obsolete Vernacular
August 21, 2019 | Kailey PartinThis story begins as many brewery stories start, with a friendship and a passion for home brewing. Austin Street Brewery, co-owned by friends Jake Austin and Will Fisher, opened in 2014 on Industrial Way in outer Portland, Maine. Together they spent years on Austin Street in Westbrook, Maine, creating beers on their homebrew system that they wanted to drink. In 2013, as the craft beer boom commenced, they took a chance and opened their brewery with a one-barrel system. When speaking with Jake Austin, he made it clear that their focus is to create “highly drinkable beer, not to chase trends.” It would seem that mission is working well for them as they recently opened a second, larger location in Portland’s East Bayside neighborhood.

Great Griggsy Beer Photography: Born From Love of Photography and Beer
August 19, 2019 | Jordan PalmerNot to get too deep emotionally here, but craft beer can and has become much more than just something to drink. The beer, and the art of making it, has gotten into the habit of meaning something pretty important to people. For me personally, it made me want to write.
Beer photography is actually a huge “thing” right now. Instagram provided the platform for millions of beer lovers, allowing drinkers around the world to become beer photographers. But for some, professional beer photography is a real and growing pursuit. So, in honor of World Photography Day today (August 19), we’re paying tribute to the art of the beer photo with a conversation with one up and coming photographer, Nathan Griggs.

2 Days 2 Nights | Great Smoky Mountains National Park
August 15, 2019 | Casey StreetThere is no better way to celebrate the National Park Service’s 103rd birthday on August 25th than with a visit to a brewery near one of the oldest and most iconic American parks, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Smoky Mountains may be vast, covering parts of both North Carolina and Tennessee, but provide phenomenal sightseeing opportunities and plenty of beer just outside the park’s gates to keep you satiated.
You could spend a week or two visiting the Smokies, especially if you have a family or love to hike. There are over 850 miles of hiking trails in the park. Oh, and it will be nearly impossible to avoid seeing bears, which are used to visitors and relatively harmless as long as you don’t get too close (50 yards, please people!). But if you can only spare a weekend, read on.

Whether you’re doing shots or sipping on a cocktail if you’re drinking tequila, you obviously need a beer chaser. While you might be content grabbing the closest Mexican lager, you could also branch out a bit, and consider a few other options. Maybe you want to complement your tequila, or maybe you want to soothe the burn. Either way, having the right beer by your side is the only way to go.
As you plan for your celebration of National Tequila Day, yes this is a thing, you also need to plan the beer to best fit your celebration.
