Bison Brewing | Organic Chocolate Stout
March 26, 2014 | Sarah HargisBison Brewing’s Organic Chocolate is one of my favorite stouts, and has been for the last few years or so. It is rich in flavor without being heavy in the body, and low enough in alcohol to be sessionable. This is definitely NOT a sweet stout. (If sweet is your thing, check out Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate stout.) Brewed with Peruvian cocoa and roasted barley, this beer boasts big coffee and dark chocolate flavors.
Ultimate 6er – The Kentucky Wildcats
March 19, 2014 | Brad HartsockEveryone who loves craft beer has a soft spot for their favorite college watering hole. While I attended the University of Kentucky (Go Big Blue), I found Pazzo’s. With a location only a few minutes from the student center, pint nights that provide free drinking glasses with the purchase of a pitcher, and around 150 beers I enjoyed many delicious beverages while I watched my beloved Kentucky Wildcats. Here are a few notable mentions.

Sidekick EPA – Two Brothers Brewing (Warrenville, IL)
March 5, 2014 | Sarah HargisIBU: 36.1
ABV: 5.1%
The last six months have seen an influx of new Midwestern and Colorado beers into Florida, and I, for one, am pretty darn excited about that. Founders and New Belgium are the two biggest new names in the state, but we are also starting to see some smaller breweries, such as Two Brothers. The Sidekick is the first beer I’ve tried from them. Weekly Growler Fill | National Beer News Roundup
March 3, 2014 | Kristen GraceSo are we drinking cheap beer again or not? While American sales might be down, distributors are backing off of the craft beer craze and pushing “cheap beer” ad campaigns further. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. But it’s okay, because we still have Sam Calagione to show us how we’ve been drinking our beers wrong all along anyway.
A Dream Deferred: Reflections from the UK Craft Beer Writing Symposium
February 27, 2014 | Jason BehlerFourteen and a half years ago, spending an entire Saturday in a lecture hall fell somewhere between being set on fire and being water-boarded on the “things I want to do” list. Fourteen and a half years ago, paying ten dollars for beer was fine, as long as I got at least eighteen of them. Fourteen and a half years ago, a super-sized value meal from the closest fast food chain equated to a “good meal.” Fourteen and a half years ago, sitting in the Center Theatre at the University of Kentucky for my Freshman Orientation, bored and self-assured, I knew exactly who I was and what I wanted to do. Confident in my abilities and sure of the direction of my life. I wanted to be a writer, journalist actually.
Ultimate 6er | The Big Move
February 26, 2014 | Sarah Hargis 1
Moving sucks. It usually takes place starting at an ungodly hour of the morning, it involves hard physical labor, scratches and bruises, and at least one or two arguments. It also takes FOREVER. Being the loving and caring people we are, we usually invite our friends to share in this very special misery, bribing them with grand promises of delicious pizza and delectable beers. I’m going to be moving at the end of the month, so here are the beers I would bribe you with, if you were to help me. *HINT* *HINT* Read More

Signs You’re A Little Too Into Craft Beer
February 20, 2014 | Tristan Chan 8If you haven’t been able to notice by now, we’re pretty into craft beer here at PorchDrinking. We totally geek out for rare beer tappings, crazy pour lists at festivals, and getting that call from your buddy asking how much Heady Topper you want sent your way.
Deschutes and Goose Island – Class of 88
February 14, 2014 | Adam SolarzBelgian Style Ale
IBU: 7 / 17
ABV: 10.9% / 11.2%
Beer brings people together. That was true 25 years ago, when Gary Fish (Deschutes) and John Hall (Goose Island) were starting their breweries and that was certainly true last week at the Pintley release party for the new Deschutes/Goose collaboration, Class of 88 Belgian Style Ale. I’m new to both Los Angeles and PorchDrinking, so an opportunity to meet some fellow craft beer enthusiasts and to try a brand new beer was too much to pass up. Read More

Reuben’s Brews – Roggenbier
January 28, 2014 | Brad HartsockABV: 5.3% IBU: 19
PorchDrinking.com recently had a round table discussion about what beer best suits our personalities. I found myself unable to come up with an answer that I thought really encompassed the various traits I have. Sometimes I can be slow and sweet (stout), occasionally aggressive and powerful (Imperial IPA), sometimes delicate and light (Pilsner). Ok I’m reading that last line and maybe I misunderstood the assignment. Read More
