Fantasy Football Recap | Week 5
October 15, 2021 | Brandon CohranQuarterbacks are often thought to be the most important position on the field in the NFL. Look at draft classes, MVP Awards and contracts. Love it or hate it, that’s typically how “real football” works. Fantasy Football usually plays by those rules but not always. In Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season, though, it was a Quarterback’s world. Justin Herbert, Josh Allen (with a hurdle) and Lamar Jackson absolutely painted the sky with fireworks throughout the weekend and into Monday Night Football. There were some outliers like Mark Andrews, Austin Ekeler and Johnathan Taylor, sure, but the majority of the weekend what the hell’s are due to stellar quarterback play. Anyway, they get enough praise as is. Let’s get to it.

Over Yonder Brewing Co. is located in Southwest Golden, CO near 1-70, a major highway into the mountains. It is also conveniently located close to the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater, making it a great place to stop for beer before a show.

Revolution Brewing | Parson’s Beer
October 12, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonParson’s Beer, a Golden Ale, is brewed by Revolution Brewing and can only be enjoyed at Parson’s Chicken & Fish here in Chicago. The beer is light, crisp and refreshing and pairs perfectly with Parson’s incredible menu. You can’t necessarily enjoy the restaurant’s stunning patio year-round, but you can enjoy this beer anytime you’d like–and that’s arguably more important.
Elsewhere Brewing | Boobie Beer Rosé Hazy IPA
October 8, 2021 | Brandon CohranOctober is upon us which means the weather outside is delightful, the holidays are coming and Spooky Season is in full swing. Also, though, the calendar flipping to October signals the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Elsewhere Brewing, in Atlanta, Georgia, is taking the month to heart with festive celebrations and a particular new beer release. Read More

Hawkins Farmhouse Ales | Major Progression BA Belgian Quad
October 1, 2021 | Ruvani de SilvaJust over half an hour directly to the south of Austin sits Lockhart, Texas — the self-proclaimed “barbecue capital” of the state. The quintessential small-town-Texas vibe is punctuated by the enormous queues snaking out of Lockhart’s four famous barbecue joints on the weekend, which attract visitors from across the state and further afield. Now there is a new reason to visit Lockhart: Hawkins Farmhouse Ales.

Hopewell Brewing | Endgrain Oktoberfest
September 30, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonThe fact that Märzen-style beers aren’t offered year-round is devastating. Even if we all had to come together and choose just one local offering to hold onto outside of the season, I’m convinced that Endgrain by Hopewell Brewing would have a strong chance.
PorchDrinking Fantasy Football Recap | Week 2
September 24, 2021 | Brandon CohranWeek 2 of the NFL season brought us a myriad of entertaining games, comebacks and unfortunate losses. Looking at you, my poor, poor pitiful Falcons. What the hell was that? Seriously. A lot of the expected stars shined bright while others have yet to show up. Josh Allen and the Bills lit up the scoreboard while underwhelming the fantasy score sheet. Sunday Night Football featured the Kansas City Chiefs visiting Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens and was one of the best football games, at any level, in recent memory. Whether you’re celebrating a W or staring at another L, just know we’re here with you. Grab a beer and see how our matchups went down this week.
4 Noses Brewing Co. | Pump Action Imperial Pumpkin Ale
September 21, 2021 | Darren CockrellSomebody call Green Day and tell them that September is ending. Autumn is officially here, so it’s time to don your sweater, ditch the Pilsners and prepare your palate for Stout season. And, as nature changes her hues, perhaps the most fittingly transitionary beer is the humble pumpkin beer: smooth, sweet, spiced and full of that guilty pleasure that we crave this time of year.

Lost Worlds Brewing Co. | Goseck Black Lager
September 20, 2021 | Aaron GoreLost Worlds Brewing Co. in Cornelius, North Carolina has always done things a little differently than many of its contemporaries. While the area has become increasingly recognized for its IPAs and Sours, they have largely looked to the old world for their inspiration, with a portfolio that hearkens back to traditions that are decades, if not centuries, old.
Craft Beer News | Firestone Walker Mind Haze Tropical Haze Mixed Pack
September 14, 2021 | Brandon CohranSurely there are other people besides myself who are cherishing the last few days of summer, right? Fall has a lot to look forward to–football weekends and holidays–but Firestone Walker Brewing Co. just made quite the splash with a new release mixed pack that has enough vacation-vibe and tropical flavors to keep us celebrating summer well into the autumn season. Marz Brewing | Jungle Boogie American Pale Wheat
September 13, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonIf you haven’t had Jungle Boogie by Marz, I’m sorry. Jungle Boogie, like Marz Brewing itself, has a cult following. It’s deserved. It’s an American Pale Wheat beer brewed with rooibos tea. The beer is perfectly rounded by the subtle sweetness from the mixed wheat grain bill and the stone fruit flavors of the rooibos tea. Light enough, at 5.5% ABV, that you can keep drinking it. Which is convenient, because you’ll want to go for another pint. Jungle Boogie is a flagship and staple at Marz. It’s the middle of the road in terms of the brewery’s long list of hoppy offerings, fruited sours, and clean lagers. The beer itself has thankfully stayed the same. Beyond infrequent adjunct offerings from mango to the more recent blueberry release, you know what you’re getting with Jungle Boogie, the very best.
Legend Brewing Co. | Brown Ale
September 2, 2021 | Scott JohnsonEvery state has a classic craft beer that changed people’s perception of what beer was. From Spotted Cow in Wisconsin to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in California, there’s a dependable representative that can be found everywhere from gas station to supermarket. In Virginia, we’re fortunate enough to drink the incredibly popular Brown Ale by Legend Brewing Co.
Horse & Dragon Brewing Co. | Silver Lion Pilsner
August 30, 2021 | Darren CockrellThe days are getting shorter, the weather is slowly turning cooler, and the last summer barbecues are being had. Autumn is upon us, but before the onslaught of Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers overrun your taste palate, why not enjoy the last golden hour of summer with a final Pilsner to rein it all in? Horse & Dragon Brewing Company’s Silver Lion is the perfect end of summer Pilsner to ease into the new season.
Southern Grist Brewing Co. | Strange Horizons NEIPA
August 20, 2021 | Jesse ValencianaCollaborations between bands and breweries are nothing new. Run the Jewels, for example, seem to agree to beer collabs as often as they agree to play a festival. From wacky creations that never should’ve left the brains of collaborators to killer creations that you wish would never run out, the spectrum of these projects are vast. Regardless, it’s always amusing to see what folks come up with. Read More
What We’re Drinking | August 6, 2021
August 6, 2021 | Brandon CohranThere’s been a very hectic aura in the air around here lately, and it’s likely due to a combination of school starting back, work being busy and the Delta variant of Covid-19 rising in cases. It feels like we somehow back tracked, but maybe we’re on the up-and-up. Maybe that’s a glass half-full perspective. Either way, you did it, it’s Friday and we made it. Cheers to that. Here is What We’re Drinking.
Little Thistle Brewing Co. | Brave Woman Scottish Ale
August 5, 2021 | Erik EidemFor some people, a beer is simply a beer. For others, beer is a sensorial or spiritual experience. The texture, the taste, the delivery and the presentation all lead to a unique encounter. Often, there are times when the history, or backstory, brings a deeper meaning to the beer you imbibe. Brave Woman, a Scottish Ale by Little Thistle Brewing in Rochester, Minnesota is such a beer. The ingredients, the presentation and the historical significance of the name of this brew all combine to make this Scottish Ale an exceptional libation. Read More

Metropolitan Brewing | Krankshaft German-Style Kölsch
July 29, 2021 | Mathew PowersIn 2008, long before breweries populated every Chicago neighborhood and suburban town, Metropolitan Brewing opened its doors. Today’s Chicago beer market now supports several Lager-focused breweries, but Metro served as the city’s trailblazer. There’s nothing pretentious or Bourgeoisie about Metro; it’s a come-as-you-are brewery. (And a Malört-friendly place, too.) And one can revel in the brilliance of its brewing at its gorgeous taproom and patio spot located on the Chicago River, a location they opened in 2017. Among the many beers they produce, there’s one that isn’t technically a lager: Krankshaft German-style Kölsch. Drinking Krankshaft provides insight into why Metro has evolved into one of Chicago’s most respected and recognizable breweries.
Baerlic Beer Co. | Blippo Pils Italian Style Pilsner
July 26, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonBeers from the Pacific North West just hit different. Oftentimes, when ordering a flight there’s one (or a couple) that disappoints. In Portland, you could order a flight at every brewery in town and continue to be even more impressed by the next pour. That, or the perfect summer weather and warm, eclectic residents will brainwash you into thinking so. While there are plenty of Portland breweries to try, don’t miss Baerlic Beer Co., especially if Blippo Pils is on draft.
