Amalgam Brewing | Present Time (Pilsner)
February 29, 2024 | Britt AntleyMaking world-class lagers is no easy feat. The knowledge required to do so is not gained overnight, and no amount of luck can produce a clean and drinkable bottom-fermented beer without the requisite skill. A successful lager brewer must put in their time and learn from their mistakes on the way to creating something great. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a renowned mentor along the way.
Event Preview | Snallygaster Beer Festival 2023
October 6, 2023 | Britt AntleyA mythical creature stalks the nation’s capital, flashing its fearsome teeth and terrifying those who dare catch a glimpse of the beast. One would be wise not to – hold on, that’s not the snallygaster we’re speaking of. Snallygaster, the Washington, D.C. beer festival, is decidedly more inviting and less likely to swoop down from the sky and carry you away to your quick demise. The 11th installment of this epic festival will feature 170 beverage producers bringing 400+ beers and ciders to Downtown D.C. on October 14, 2023.
2022 Colorado New Year’s Eve Brewery Events
December 28, 2022 | Britt Antley2022 is almost in the books, meaning it’s time to celebrate the year that was and look forward to what 2023 will bring us. While some may be content to spend New Year’s Eve huddled amongst freezing masses for hours on end or in a crowded club struggling to reach the bar, the discerning Coloradan will wisely seek out a local brewery for a more relaxed and enjoyable vibe. Many breweries throughout the state have events planned in the hours leading up to New Year’s, so we have assembled a list of those here. Whether you want to catch some live music, eat a multiple course beer dinner or try some special beers, there is something here for every beer lover. As always, be safe and responsible in your New Year’s Eve drinking activities – let’s end this year and start the next in a great way!
If we missed any Colorado NYE Brewery events be sure to shoot us a message and we would love to add your event to our round-up.
Westbound & Down | Chicago Peaks Kolsch
June 7, 2022 | Britt Antley 1As the weather has transitioned to long, warm, pleasant days, one’s choice in beer necessarily becomes something that can be drunk for longer periods of time. No longer just getting it in while you can, this is the season for drinking sessions that extend for the duration of several beers, necessitating a beverage that is both refreshing and of moderate ABV so as to leave you in decent shape. This is the season for a beer like Westbound & Down Chicago Peaks Kolsch. Light and drinkable yet still packing serious flavor, this beer was made for warm weather get-togethers.
Ultimate 6er | The Abandoned German Beers of a Colorado Fall
October 20, 2021 | Seth GarlandThere’s a lot to love about the changing of the seasons. But then again, is there? Oh you love fall colors? Come over and clean up my leaves in November. You love the little nip in the air, do ya? Well get ready for flu season. You just LOVE you some pumpkin spice? Tell that to the child laborers who sweat away in the pumpkin spice mines for pennies on the dollar.
Fall does bring about some tasty beers — or at least we associate certain tasty beers with fall. Wet Hop beers, Pumpkin (not that there’s anything wrong with that) beers and certain Stouts are only released in fall, so that makes sense.

Oktoberfest Beer Showcase | Bierstadt Lagerhaus Oktoberfest Märzen
September 17, 2020 | Tristan ChanIn a year when longstanding traditions have been upended by the unconventional, a Denver brewery is aiming to preserve one of beer’s most time-honored rituals. Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver, CO, which has been celebrated since its inception for its unwavering dedication to brewing traditional Lagers, is set to release their vaunted Oktoberfest Märzen Lager. This weekend’s release will coincide with the date that the 210-year-old Oktoberfest festival in Munich was originally scheduled to kick-off before being canceled as a result of the pandemic.
PorchDrinking’s Guide to Enneagram Beer Pairings
August 28, 2020 | Chea FranzIn the midst of a pandemic, there has been a lot curiosity among the PorchDrinking crew. How will this new normal affect the beer industry? When will we attend a beer festival again? What’s my enneagram and what beer should I pair with it?
Okay, so maybe that last question was a bit of a stretch, but we’re all for a little self-reflection during trying times. What better way to do this than to take the quiz and find the appropriate beer that matches our enneagram types? Here are some of our favorite PorchDrinking staff enneagram types and their beer pairings.
Beers to Enjoy While Playing Animal Crossing
July 24, 2020 | Karen MillsIn the midst of quarantining, Nintendo released their newest version of Animal Crossing for the Switch. If you’re like me, this may be a nostalgic release, having played an older version of the game back when the DS was at its peak. Without further ado, we’ve rounded up a few beers to enjoy while playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons (hopefully with friends, while practicing social distancing).
