Fifty West Brewing Co. | Maibock
March 22, 2022 | Jereme ZimmermanIt’s Bock season! Just as Oktoberfest celebrates the transition from summer to the colder months, German brewers also feel the need to brew celebratory beers for the period when the daytime begins to warm up, but the evenings and mornings are still chilly. Maibock, from Cincinnati’s Fifty West Brewing Company is the perfect beer to fit the bill.

May 1, 2019 | David Nilsen 1Germans love their beer, and they love to drink a lot of it, which means most German styles need to be crisp and fairly low in alcohol to support extended drinking sessions in those gorgeous beer gardens you keep drooling over on Instagram. When I say the words “German beer,” you most likely picture a glass of pale, brilliantly clear Pilsner, or perhaps a stein of amber-colored Märzen (Oktoberfest). First started in 1987, Schell’s Bock Fest celebration is an event as rich in tradition as the brewery itself. Here’s what you need to know about the event, which takes place on March 2, 2019 from 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Schell’s Brewing Company.

Spoetzl Brewery – Shiner Bock

Shiner Bock. I couldn’t tell you the first time I tried it, but my most recent love affair with the Texas brew began shortly after Christmas. My friends Christine, Samantha and I went to see Dallas Buyers Club, and at the end of the film Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey are splitting none other than (you guessed it!) a bottle of Shiner Bock. Up until this point, I had kind of forgotten about it, which isn’t fair to such a stellar beer, but it just got lost in the fray. Read More
