Avery Brewing | The Beast Oak Aged Grand Cru Ale
October 21, 2016 | Mathew PowersVincent Price warned us all, but nothing can stop Avery Brewing from unleashing The Beast upon the beer-drinking world. It is big. It is bold. It is even a little frightening. It lurks in the depths of Avery’s brewhouse, ready to pounce on nearby taste buds. The Beast doesn’t just dominate the palate, it devours it… and you will love it.
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’all’s neighborhood

Wiley Roots Brewing Company | Super 77 Wheat
October 7, 2016 | David ThompsonABV: 4.7% | IBU: 12
Winning a medal at GABF is a big deal, and for a craft brewer it could be validation of years of work and passion. Event Recap | Ska Brewing’s 21st Anniversary Party
September 15, 2016 | David ThompsonWhen I turned 21, I spent the night drinking way too much blue-ribbon winning beer while slightly intoxicated coeds did their best Carrie Underwood karaoke. It was just about as much of a mess as it sounds. This year, Ska Brewing turned 21, and they decided to celebrate with some gold-medal winning beer and some legendary punk and ska bands. It was just about as amazing as it sounds.

Epic Brewing | Los Locos Mexican-Style Lager
August 30, 2016 | David ThompsonABV: 4.8%
From the first sip of a Los Locos, the Mexican-style Lager from Epic Brewing, you know you are in for something special. The all-too-familiar aroma of lime and salt is the first thing you notice. The tart lime flavor is definitely present, but never overwhelming, and the hint of sea salt seems to cut any lingering sweetness that may be present making Los Locos a crisp and refreshing beer. Paradox Beer Company | No. 40 Pineapple Upside-Down Sour
August 26, 2016 | Devin CasterABV: 7.6%
It’s no secret that 2016 has been quite the year for sour and wild beers; some even argue it is THE style category of the year. You can’t turn your head in a decent bottle shop without spotting a new flavored Gose, Berliner or raspberry sour blend. It is the key for many breweries to stick out in this new wave of names and labels. Read More

Women in Brewing | Julia Herz – Brewers Association
August 9, 2016 | Kara Loo and Kelissa HieberAs we approach Julia Herz at the CraftBeer.com booth at the Vail Big Beers fest, she’s standing with Executive Chef Adam Dulye, purveying toffee and craft beer samples. Enthusiastically, she encourages us to give the pairing a try and we do so willingly. The confection is a 70% dark chocolate with almonds, toffee and a sweetness level calculated to complement the malt bill of the beer, Baere Brewing Company’s Big Hoppy Brown. It’s a pairing tastier than we even imagined — the delicious hop character of the brown ale comes forward as the rich, malty, nutty sweetness takes a backseat. As we wash down the last of the toffee, we chat with Julia on her long history in the brewing community.
