Event Preview | Odell Resurrects Small Batch Festival

April 14, 2016 |

Odell Brewing Company last hosted Small Batch Festival in 2012, and while the event was an amazing success, the brewery has been quite busy in the years since — They expanded their footprint (Iowa and Texas,) updated their seasonal lineup (Brombeere here, Double Pilsner gone,) released a handful of new bombers (such as Brazzle and Pina Agria,) created a seasonal variety pack (Montage,) and completed brewery construction. Having accomplished so much the past few years, Odell is ready to bring back the Small Batch Festival and hopes to make it an annual event. Adam D’Antonio from Odell said “production comes first and festivals second. We didn’t want to bring Small Batch back until we were ready and could do it right.” Read More

When Verboten Brewing opened just over three years ago in the nondescript industrial alcove of Taurus Ct on the Eastern side of Loveland, CO, Co-Founders Josh and Angie Grenz had eyes firmly fixed on distribution. While Verboten has continued to grow its distribution across the Front Range, a new chapter is about to begin. Last week, Verboten Brewing ended its five month hiatus, with the grand opening of their new facility, now located in downtown Loveland, at the corner of E Fifth and South Roosevelt St.

Over the last couple years East Colfax has been filling up with breweries, including Fiction Beer Company, Lost Highway Brewing Company, Alpine Dog Brewery, and Mu Brewery, but West Colfax has had a clear void in the craft beer scene. Funkwerks | Paisley Belgian-Style Brett Saison

February 12, 2016 |

ABV: 7%

Paisley is a beer from Funkwerks’ experimental series, packaged in a bright Paisley-decorated bottle that could have come from Pier 1 Imports rather than the liquor store. We were excited to try our first Funkwerks wild ale and popped it open with some anticipation. The beer poured into the glass a hazy golden orange color with delicate lacing. At first whiff there was a strong barnyard smell that immediately transitioned to tropical flavors including apricot, cherry, and spicy passion fruit aided by the Funkwerks’ house yeast strain. Women in Brewing | Ali Benetka – Ratio Beerworks

January 5, 2016 |

Brewing has been a part of the world since the dawn of civilization; some have even claimed that beer has helped influence the evolution of our species. In many eras, brewing was largely a woman’s job. Men began to dominate the field starting in the Renaissance period and even more so during The Industrial Revolution as brewing operations scaled to mass production. Today Colorado is one of the biggest beer states in the country with cities such as Fort Collins, Boulder and Denver offering some of the best beer available. However, men still notoriously hold the title “brewmaster” more often than women. As females in the industry, we felt compelled to highlight some of the talented women who currently make Colorado beer, the paths they took to their currently role in the industry, and the awesome work they are doing on a daily basis.

Upslope Brewing Company | Wild Christmas Ale (Lee Hill Series, Vol. 6)

December 23, 2015 |

ABV: 9.2% | IBU: 11

Let me preface this showcase: Upslope’s standard Christmas Ale is a really solid holiday dubbel. The Abbey Ale Yeast adds pleasant notes of dried fruit to the beer’s expected holiday spice to create a unique flavor. By any measure, it’s a good holiday beer.

That said, the Upslope Wild Christmas Ale takes it to a new and unexpected level. Read More
