PorchDrinking’s Best in Beer 2019 | Mountain Region

January 2, 2020 |

It’s been an interesting year in beer to say the least. This year we set out to explore a wider array of breweries and beers and came back pretty surprised by what we discovered. And while it would be nearly impossible to break down the best beers from 2019, we looked back on some of our favorites from the past year as well as some of the most stand-out breweries, beer festivals and stories from 2019. Enough exposition, let’s get straight to the honors.

Collaboration Fest 2019: It Takes Two To Make A Brew Go Right

March 21, 2019 | 1

Like most good friendships, Denver’s Collaboration Festival has only gotten better with age. This past weekend we celebrated its sixth year with over 100 creative and delicious collaborations amongst 200+ different breweries. The rules for participation were as laidback as the festival vibe itself: each beer needed to be a collaboration between at least two breweries, and at least one brewery in the team needed to be a member of the Colorado Brewer’s Guild. Beyond that, the sky was the limit.

You Won’t Ducking Believe the Amazing, Yet Bizarre Beers at 2018 Collaboration Fest

April 3, 2018 |

Last year’s Collaboration Fest, which took place at the National Western Complex, was a bit rocky to put it nicely. But a move this year to the Hyatt-Regency in Downtown Denver, along with better signage and understated touches to attendee experiences, helped elevate the 5th year festival to the upper echelon of beer event experiences nation-wise. This year’s Collab Fest brought everything together to combine incredible concept, high quality beers, and near flawless execution.

As I stood in line with another early-goer, I asked if he had a strategy for hitting all the best. He replied, “Normally I make a beeline for a few beers in particular, but I can’t do that here. I’m just buzzing all over the place instead.”

Festival Recap | 2016 Collaboration Fest

March 25, 2016 |

In its third iteration, the 2016 Collaboration Fest boasted its biggest and most successful ‘collab fest’ yet. The Denver-based festival invites breweries to collaborate with one another to create unique, one-off beers that are to be poured at this festival only with some of the beers being made available otherwise but in most scarce amounts. Our friends over at the Colorado Brewer’s Guild and Two Parts put on one hell of an event and stepped up in all of the right places. Sports Authority Field at Mile High continues to be a great facility for the event as we got to mill around and talk shop with many a brewer and imbiber alike again this year.

A Six-Pack of Beers to Try at the 3rd Annual Collaboration Festival

March 17, 2016 |

You’ve heard it time and again — the craft brewing industry is collaborative by nature. Breweries share know-how and ingredients. They root for each other. Veterans impart wisdom — including lessons learned the hard way — to the generations that follow. Of course, there are spats and personality clashes. But that is true when human beings come in contact with one another, no matter the context. For the most part, all the collaboration talk is backed up with deeds.

Festival Recap | 2015 Collaboration Fest

March 24, 2015 | 1

Only into its second year of existence and Collaboration Fest shows its teeth and flexes its community-grown muscles. The Denver-based festival boasted lots of brewer cameos both near and far. Last year, in its infancy, the festival came together to celebrate the collaboration and/or cooperation that runs rampant in the craftbeer industry by showcasing beers made by multiple brewers from different breweries for this one of a kind festival. The festival accomplished this and so much more in year one. Fast forward to 2015, in an upgraded and more accommodating venue, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, we got to mill around and talk shop with many a brewer and imbiber alike to see just why this was one of the most anticipated festivals of the year in Denver.
