Copper Kettle Brewery

February 25, 2013 |

Those of us who live in Colorado are lucky that we have such an amazing craft beer scene available to us. Most can find a local brewery within a few miles of them at any given time. At this particular moment, I am appreciating this fact as I’m in my company’s plane somewhere above Kansas on my way home to Denver, and craving an amazing craft beer. Copper Kettle Brewery, located at 1338 S. Valencia Street, in Denver near Parker and Mississippi, will be my first stop after I land. They opened with the intent to be the local “Cheers” brewery for those who live near them. Don’t let this fool you though, as they make some amazing beers and have won a few medals at GABF since their inception in 2011. Their most well-known beer is their Mexican Chocolate Stout, a spicy brew you will not forget. A gold medal winner at GABF in 2011 in the Herb and Spice Beer category, you will want to try this one when you visit.

A first-timer’s experience at Great American Beer Festival

October 10, 2012 |

I walked into the largest room I’ve ever been in and it was empty. As the volunteer group started to move about the Convention Center floor, I just stopped to take it in. I made it to the Great American Beer Festival.

Strange Brewery – Denver, CO

October 2, 2012 |

I recently discovered that I’m kinda a weird dude. My friend Paula recently called me out for being an “Asian, hipster, frat boy from Kentucky who also listens to bluegrass/country music.” I guess she has a point. Perhaps that’s why I find Strange Brewery in Denver, CO so endearing.

Inaugural Boulder IPA Festival Part 2

September 18, 2012 |

Scott and I originally went into the inaugural Boulder IPA Festival believing that we would only receive 16 four oz. pours. So, when we arrived, we studied the list of 90 beers to star the must-drinks and quickly weeded out the beers we have had over and over again. However, once we checked in and dropped the completely badass “we’re on the guest list” line, we found out that we were VIPs.

Very. Important. Persons. Read More

Breckenridge Brewery – Agave Wheat

September 4, 2012 |

ABV:  4.2%

IBU: 9

I originally wanted to write this review about Maumee Bay Brewing Company’s Agave Chili Ale. I took a sip of it at Ohio Brew Week this June and was blown away by just that small taste. Alas, my emails to the brewmaster and sales manager to get my hands on some were to no avail. I searched high and low for something similar, but it was no use. The closest thing I could find was Breckenridge Brewery’s Agave Wheat. Read More

Picking Hops With Wynkoop Brewery

August 28, 2012 |

On August 9, I was invited to join the Wynkoop brewers and staff to pick locally-grown hops for their beer Belgarado. It is a Belgian style Pale Ale made with all Colorado grown ingredients, except for the yeast. Fresh cut Chinook hops were shipped over to the brewery from Voss Farms in Arvada, CO. One of my friends from Kentucky, Andrew, was in Denver for the week and he was thrilled to be a part of this process. Plus, we were goaded with the promise of free beer.

High Gravity Brewing On Its Way!

August 13, 2012 |

Lately trying to keep track of new breweries has been kinda like trying to keep track of FroYo stores, they keep popping up and I completely OK with that. The latest in Denver’s Craft Beer Renaissance period is Craig Rothgery’s High Gravity Brewing which is hoping to open it’s doors by late December or early January, a perfect way to start the new year.
