Event Recap | Wrecking Bar Strong Beer Festival
December 5, 2017 | Eric JacksonThis past weekend one of Atlanta’s most notable brewpubs and historic buildings, the Wrecking Bar Brewpub, hosted their annual Strong Beer Festival. Well over 400 beloved beer enthusiasts defied the law of gravity and partook in big beers over 8%. Upwards of 60 beers were served at the festival with the lowest coming in at 8% and the highest ringing in right at 13.9%. The selection and variation of beer offered at this festival was not only above gravity, but above par – each one delivering a strength with purpose and craft. Read More

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. | Table Beer
November 3, 2017 | Eric JacksonThere has been a steady rise in the popularity of the bière de table in the last several years and if you have difficulty pronouncing it like I did, the English translation is table beer. This Belgium-style beer is designed and brewed for easy drinking. It’s a very balanced and simple recipe designed to cleanse the palate in between bites at the dinner table. With its low alcohol level, you can casually drink this throughout the day.

Ultimate 6er | The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
October 18, 2017 | Scott Johnson“He made me feel warm like glitter was exploding inside me”
These words are from the first episode of CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and I have felt that way ever since. When the show first came out, everyone (myself included) rolled his or her eyes just because the title evokes that same type of romantic drama we know too well. I couldn’t be more wrong; Rachel Bloom’s comedy-musical series was one of the most original, introspective takes on will they-won’t they wacky love featuring great commentary on mental illness. Along with the witty writing, you get high quality, hilarious songs that riff on every genre like the Marilyn Monroe inspired “The Math of Love Triangles” and the best pop-punk song since 2009, “Ping Pong Girl.” Read More

SweetWater Brewing Co. | Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs, Hazy Imperial IPA
October 18, 2017 | Jose MinayaSweetWater Brewing Company turns the dank dial to the max with their latest Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs. Let’s all take a moment and remember the first time we tried an intensely hoppy IPA. The bracing bitterness and intense aromas that felt so dominating back then are not as common today. Sure, part of that is due to acclimating to the hops but also the trend away from the classic hop varietals to more boutique and less bitter hop strains. But Fresh Sticky Nugs delivers the nostalgia in spades!

October 4, 2017 | Christopher HilliardThings of late have been eventful for me, dear readers. A new home, a newborn nephew, and now my first foray into SweetWater Brewing Co.’s The Woodlands Project. The Woodlands opened its doors around this time last year (October 2016) and ever since has served as HQ for SweetWater’s barrel-aging program where they produce small-batch “funky, sour, or otherwise awesome beers.”

Georgia Breweries Celebrate Their Liberation Aug. 31 – Sept. 1, 2017
August 15, 2017 | Josh RitenourIf you’re a craft beer lover, you’ve probably never thought twice about ordering a beer at your favorite brewery. That’s because you don’t live in the state of Georgia. Currently, the only way to enjoy a fresh one at a brewery in this state is to purchase a tour, exchange tickets or tokens, jump through flaming hoops, perform backflips and recite the alphabet backward (well, those first two things at least). All that nonsense is about to change.
