Event Preview | Georgia Craft Brewers Festival

The Georgia Craft Brewers Guild invites you out to the first ever Georgia Craft Brewers Festival happening April 1-2. April 1 will be a VIP preview event from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This VIP experience will allow attendees to taste 20+ special collaboration beers from brewery participants, as well as hear from brewers about the beers, their process, ingredients and inspiration. A panel of 15 experienced Beer Judge Certification Program-certified judges will award gold, silver and bronze to the top three winners of the collaboration contest.

The bracing bitterness and intense aromas that felt so dominating back then are not as common today. Sure, part of that is due to acclimating to the hops but also the trend away from the classic hop varietals to more boutique and less bitter hop strains. But Fresh Sticky Nugs delivers the nostalgia in spades!

Things of late have been eventful for me, dear readers. A new home, a newborn nephew, and now my first foray into SweetWater Brewing Co.’s The Woodlands Project. The Woodlands opened its doors around this time last year (October 2016) and ever since has served as HQ for SweetWater’s barrel-aging program where they produce small-batch “funky, sour, or otherwise awesome beers.”

Brewery Showcase | Arches Brewing

One of the hottest new breweries in the Atlanta-area is Hapeville, Georgia’s Arches Brewing. Hapeville may be an unfamiliar city name, but the brewery is located just north of one of the world’s busiest airports, Hartsfield-Jackson International. Arches is creating a lot of buzz as one of the best new breweries in Georgia (THE best in my opinion), so it’s clearly wasting no time making its mark on the Georgia craft beer landscape.

While small and independent craft breweries across the nation strive to compete with big beer for shelf space and tap handle placement, there’s another prominent movement happening in the South. More specifically, in the one remaining state that still prohibits the on-site purchase of beer at breweries: Georgia, ooh Georgia.
However, thanks to the unshakable determination of the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild, a bill now exists in the state Senate to modernize Georgia’s ridiculous beer laws once and for all.
