Ultimate 6er | Beers to Numb the Surreal, Disconnected American Fauxscape
November 18, 2024 | Seth GarlandLast year the surgeon general issued a 60+ page report on the epidemic of loneliness that has been pervasive in the post-COVID world. Whatever you felt about the recent election, it had to at the very least remind you that we’re living in extraordinarily strange times. How do we find new and improved social connections amid the deepest national division in our collective lifetimes?
Beer, that’s how. Your local craft brewery has become the gold standard of post-pandemic community interaction. Beyond whatever product is delivered through the taps, craft breweries are every bit as important to the community as bars and saloons were in the Old West, or as taverns were in pretty much any other point in human history. They are the hubs of social interaction — the great equalizer of humanity that transcends class, age, affiliation or taste.
LUKI Brewing’s Niche Events Find Success in the ‘Burbs
January 22, 2024 | Seth GarlandAs DJ Saddy Jeff sulked in the corner — spinning an Emo’s Greatest Hits set of tunes — a bigger-than-usual crowd of thirsty Thursday holiday refugees gathered to pair beers and treats, watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and bask in the warm radiation of songs from the ghosts of a vaguely-goth past.
In the (normally) quiet West Arvada suburbs of Denver, Colorado, LUKI Brewery has found a niche in its array of unique events. From the ever-popular Gilmore Girls Day, to Goat Yoga and a bunch of wacky stuff in between, founder Jeff Smith has created something special that (perhaps strangely, at times?) really unites the community.
LUKI Brewery | Hop Juggling Hazy
April 7, 2023 | Seth GarlandThere’s something about the experience of drinking at a local brewery before distribution enters into the equation. In the best way, it’s a lot like how TV used to be pre-DVR, pre-streaming. There’s a greater appreciation of the current tap list, knowing that you may not always get to enjoy one of your favorites year-round.
Ultimate 6er | Beers to Drink on the Couch While the Rest of These Jerks Gawk at Leaves
October 5, 2022 | Seth GarlandIt’s no longer fashionable to rip on pumpkin beers, cozy-sweater-cocoa zombies or Nickelback. It’s been done. It’s worn out. Pumpkin spice is far too ubiquitous to fight any longer. The war’s been fought and to the victor go the gourd-flavored spoils. We’ve lost.
As hot girl summer slowly morphs into beer belly autumn, there are few activities more confusing to the aliens documenting our earthling lives than leaf-peeping.
Ultimate 6er | Denver-Area Cinco de Mayo Beers
May 4, 2022 | Britt AntleyCinco de Mayo is nearly upon us, and to commemorate this day of celebration for Mexican-American culture, many Denver area breweries have brewed special recipes honoring Mexican tradition. A holiday that generates beer sales that rival that of the Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo has become synonymous in America with parties that celebrate all aspects of Mexican-American culture from history to traditions to food and of course alcohol. While you celebrate with friends and family on May 5, look for the below brews to properly ring in the occasion.
What We’re Drinking | May 28, 2021
May 28, 2021 | Brandon CohranIt’s been a hell of a two weeks in the craft beer world since we’ve last had a drink check. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then head over to Brienne (@ratmagnet) on Instagram and read the thousands of accounts of sexual harassment, misogyny and unfair treatment to women all across the industry. This movement isn’t something to be funny or cute about, so here’s some of the beers that our staff have had during the last two weeks. Guys — specifically white bearded dudes in the industry who look just like me — be better. Here is What We’re Drinking:
LUKI Brewery | Rocinante Mexican Lager
May 20, 2021 | Seth GarlandLUKI Brewery in Arvada, Colo. has been open just a bit over 10 months now. In terms of our current relationship with time/space, that’s more or less an eternity. As Jefferson County gave its businesses the “all clear,” LUKI and owner/head brewer Jeff Smith now have their first opportunity to pack the big top to capacity.
What better way to kick pandemic restrictions to the curb and start summer off than with a crisp, subtly sweet, lime-tinged Mexican Lager?
What We’re Drinking | April 9, 2021
April 9, 2021 | Justin PennelSpring is in the air. Shots are going in arms. Beer is going in bellies. Join us to see what we’re drinking this week.

Brewery Showcase | LUKI Brewery
November 4, 2020 | Seth Garland“We were just another set of yahoos trying to make it happen,” Jeff Smith, owner and brewer at LUKI Brewery in Arvada, Colorado says. “There are so many delusions of grandeur, so I respect the professional collective apathy at yet another ‘homebrewer going pro’ story.”
In 2018, Smith quit his job to focus on the brewery full-time, unaware (as we all were) of the pandemic that would soon ravage the industry. When his family cut the ribbon on LUKI (a combination of his daughters’ names) in July of 2020, Smith’s “delusions of grandeur” manifested into a wild new reality: A fun, circus-themed brewery on the west side of Arvada.
Halloween Beer Treat | LUKI Brewery Grammy’s Pumpkin Pie
October 19, 2020 | Seth GarlandDuring a drastic weather change like the ones we experience in Colorado from time to time, it’s easy to go right from crispy summer brews to heavy winter Stouts without the intermediary Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers. But LUKI Brewery in Arvada, Colorado, is giving its fairly new fan base reason to seek out squash and gourd-centric beers this fall: Grammy’s Pumpkin Pie.
Instead of being labeled a “pumpkin Ale” or an Imperial Stout with pumpkin like so many others, Grammy’s Pumpkin Pie is a spiced Brown Ale. LUKI’s current craft lineup contains no sub-5% ABV beers nor any 10%+ ABV booze bombs; the beers are born from owner and brewer Jeff Smith’s love of old-school styles and desire to create well-balanced, accessible (and still entertaining) brews.
