What We’re Drinking | February 19, 2021
February 19, 2021 | Seth GarlandWe’re all just trying to stay positive here — it’s been a weird week of weather, political news and a bunch of other not-great stuff. But as bad as things are, remember there are still good people and good things happening: NASA landed its aptly named “Perseverance” rover on Mars, along with its airborne compadre “Ingenuity.” Watch the video of the NASA team bursting into cheers when the rover successfully landed on the Martian surface — it’s a much-needed shot of good vibes.
So if you, like most people, can’t afford to up and escape the freezing cold on a plane to Cancun at a moment’s notice, you can chill here with us as we show off the awesome craft brews the PorchDrinking team’s been enjoying in this week’s What We’re Drinking.
What We’re Drinking | February 12, 2021
February 12, 2021 | Justin PennelWe’re just two days out from Valentine’s Day 2021. Everyone treats this “holiday” differently regardless of their relationship status, and who knows what kind of wrench COVID is going to through into that equation. One thing I think we can all get behind is treating yourself or a loved one to a growler fill or some cans from your local brewery. This is What We’re Drinking.
Modern Times Beer | Blanc On Blanc On Blanc On Blanc
September 13, 2019 | Justin PennelIn a craft beer market that’s ever-growing and becoming harder and harder to stand out from the competition, Modern Times continues to find ways to push the envelope and garner massive interest. It definitely helps attract customers when you have creative, out-of-the-ordinary beer names and one-of-a-kind label/can art. Modern Times isn’t the only brewery out there that can come up with clever names and awesome art; however, not all of those breweries can back up those aspects with a high quality beer—over and over again. One of their beers that checks the box on all of those categories is Blanc On Blanc On Blanc On Blanc. Read More
Modern Times Beer | Hyper Halo Berliner Weisse
February 7, 2019 | Michelle ThomasNo matter where you live in the nation, you’re always itching to get your hands on the exclusive beers you can’t get through your local distribution. We’ve all seen the “ISO,” “Looking Out For” or “Will Trade For” posts on craft beer Facebook groups, but some choose to use some other less conventional ways to get their hands on new beers. Personally, I use Tavour when I want some really amazing beers from “sea to shining sea,” and even beyond.
The Weekly Buzz | July 27 – August 2
August 3, 2018 | Dan BortzSince we’re all gathered here around the Weekly Buzz hearth, allow Grandpappy Dan to spin a yarn about the good old days. A long time ago, fall seasonal beers — like pumpkin ales — used to be released in the fall, so that their warm spiciness and pumpkin sweetness could be enjoyed on cool autumn nights. Märzens (or Oktoberfests) would be released in September to coincide with Munich’s historic Oktoberfest festival, which runs from late September until early October. Much like the way certain big box chains stock bathing suits in February, these beers are releasing earlier and earlier. Does anyone really want to drink a Pumpkin Ale in July or August? I don’t believe that they do. Seasonality is a beautiful thing, but it is being lost as its lines are being blurred. If you don’t buy fall seasonals in August, they’ll stop releasing them in August.
Let’s make seasonal beers great again!

May 18, 2018 | Dan BortzI can’t help but notice that none of you sent me any beer for my birthday! Actually, I can. You didn’t know it was my birthday. It’s not like I have a Wikipedia page or anything. You aren’t to blame for the fact that I drank Corona Light. I made some poor life decisions. The rest of the PorchDrinking staff, however, made some very good decisions. Scroll down to discover What We’re Drinking!

The Weekly Buzz | May 11 – 17
May 18, 2018 | Dan BortzI’m far too tired to give you a witty introduction. My body is aching. Migraine symptoms are setting in. I know that these are probably related to the amount of time I spend on Twitter, but I’m just too darn committed to compiling this dumb list of tweets for your enjoyment. My own well-being comes second to you. Submitted for your approval, this is The Weekly Buzz.

The Weekly Buzz | March 30 – April 5
April 6, 2018 | Dan BortzWe here at PorchDrinking hope that you spent this week’s holy days surrounded by friends, family and fine craft beers. April Fool’s Day is a sacred tradition that MUST be observed annually, so that we may keep our rich heritage of tomfoolery alive and vibrant. Without it, we would lose a large piece of what we are as a species. To that end, here is a celebration of nonsense and shenanigans. This is The Weekly Buzz.

The Weekly Buzz | January 19 – 25
January 26, 2018 | Dan BortzIt’s high time that we discuss something very important. That thing is the NFC Conference Championship. The result was exactly as I thought it would be — a thorough shellacking of the Minnesota Viking by a vastly superior football team. Nick Foles led the Eagles to victory and will do so again in the Super Bowl. Philly loves to be the underdog, so keep underestimating them, Tom Brady! Oh… and I found some beer things on Twitter, too. This is the Weekly Buzz.
E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!

The Weekly Buzz | November 10 – 23
November 24, 2017 | Dan BortzWelcome to this special double-edition of The Weekly Buzz. I had a work obligation that stopped me from posting last week, but fear not! I did manage to collect all the content, which is good because there was a LOT going on. Anyway… Here’s the best beer-related Twitter and Instagram content from the last two weeks. It’s time to start sipping on this special barrel-aged bottle of The Weekly Buzz!

What We’re Drinking | September 29, 2017
September 29, 2017 | Dan BortzIt’s almost October. Why is it so damn hot outside? I’m usually a lover of spring and fall, so this unseasonable warmth has to stop. Instead of enjoying Porters and Brown Ales outside, I’m drinking Session IPAs and Pilsners in the air conditioning like some kind of animal! When will the insanity end?! In an attempt to stay cool and kill time while autumn drags its feet, I prepared a special double-issue for you to enjoy. Fire up the AC, pack yourself in ice and get ready to see What We’re Drinking.

September 1, 2017 | Dan BortzThis week was terrible in so many ways, almost all of which were related to a bastard named Harvey. It’s disasters like these that help renew my faith in people. … Read More
The Weekly Buzz | June 30 – July 6
July 7, 2017 | Dan BortzIt’s a federal holiday, an extra day off from work and, above all else, a celebration of independence. The Fourth of July is a celebration of our nation’s independence but, this week, we also found ourselves in a discussion about the independence of craft beer. In this edition of The Weekly Buzz, we’ll explore life, liberty (from Big Beer) and the pursuit of happiness. There’s no better way to pursue happiness than by enjoying a fresh, American-made craft beer, so I suggest you drink one while reading!

The Weekly Buzz | May 19 – 25
May 26, 2017 | Dan BortzIt is very hard to type when there is a 16-month-old baby sitting on your arm. She is singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” so the pros outweigh the cons. It’s only a matter of time, however, until pins-and-needles become a very real threat. Despite my impeded blood circulation, I managed to comb Twitter for a few morsels of beer news. I hope you enjoy this edition of The Weekly Buzz.
What We’re Drinking | May 12, 2017
May 12, 2017 | Dan BortzI’m jealous of every PorchDrinker this week. I have been working too much to enjoy any fine craft brews. Luckily, I get to live vicariously through each and every one of them. Don’t worry about me, fair readers. My liver shall be vindicated next week. I’ll be vacationing in Myrtle Beach and will have nothing to do except imbibe. Does anyone have bail money to lend me in advance? This is What We’re Drinking!
