Modern Times Beer | Ice (Pilsner)
August 11, 2017 | Justin CarterSummer may be coming to a close but that doesn’t mean the temperature has let up. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area we’ve been bombarded with unseasonably stifling heat and sticky high humidity. This has meant that light beer has been a major staple in my refrigerator. Lagers, pilsners, session IPAs, and Gose are not normally in my wheelhouse but I’ve come to appreciate their low alcohol crushability.

Modern Times Beer Further Cements Independence with Employee Ownership Program
July 7, 2017 | Tristan ChanOver the past four years, Modern Times Beer has exploded on to the craft beer scene in a major way, growing from a production of 2000 barrels in their first year of existence, to over 40,000 barrels this past year. While many breweries who exhibit such a drastic growth pattern have eventually turned to outside funding to help further their endeavors, the San Diego-based brewery has chosen to go the route of employee ownership. Earlier today, Modern Times Beer announced that it has repurchased shares held by its initial investors and that 30% of shares will now be held in an employee stock ownership program (ESOP).

Modern Times Beer | Blazing World
June 20, 2017 | David ThompsonABV: 6.8% | IBU: 85
Seeing that the times are what they are, you know with politics, fake news, real news, climate change, brewery buy outs, you may think that Modern Time’s hoppy amber Blazing World was named after… modern times. Not exactly. “Yeah, we definitely never intended it to be that timely of a name,” said Modern Times communication coordinator Dan Reed.
Despite how depressingly timely the name may be, the “hoppy, dank, amber” is truly an uplifting beer. “The stickiest of the icky,” as Reed described. “It’s a luxuriously hoppy amber loaded up with intemperate quantities of Nelson, Mosaic and Simcoe hops, which are some of the fruitiest, dankest hops sweet, sweet money can buy,” Reed added. Ultimate 6er | Father’s Day Beers
June 14, 2017 | Jose MinayaFather’s Day is right around the corner. I always enjoyed celebrating my dad on this great summer day but for the first time the tables are turning. My wife and I are expecting our first baby late this summer and after this year Father’s Day will certainly have a completely different meaning to me. As such this year is my last time not being part of the fathers’ club. So cheers to all of your special fathers in your life and honor them with the following six beers!

The Weekly Buzz | February 3 – 9, 2017
February 10, 2017 | Dan BortzThis was a pretty fun week for social media. Not only did the Super Bowl provide endless, hilarious supply of brewery-on-brewery trolling, but there was lots of other fun stuff, too. There were breweries checking in from beer festivals, new beers, distribution announcements, job listings, and more. Don’t worry. We caught all the shenanigans and distilled it down for easy consumption. This is The Weekly Buzz.

Out of all the great events in February, The Academy Awards always stand out as the true final hurrah for the previous year. It’s easy to get caught up in the fervor of the Oscars similar to that of the Super Bowl, rooting for your favorite films while trying to guess the odds between critical vs. commercial praise. And if you are in a movie league like I am, or if you were just one of 36+ Million Viewers from last year, there’s got to be plenty of beer flowing from both sides of the screen.
Modern Times Beer| Blazing World
April 9, 2014 | Adam SolarzABV: 6.8%
Modern Times’ can first caught my eye because it reminded me of a classic baseball uniform, inviting in that vintage American summer day feeling (I guess it’s like that every day in Southern California). This can is beautiful, simple, classic, and awesome. In the beer world, looks can deceive, but Modern Times Beer has it all: perfect inside and out. Read More
