Beer & Book Club | Anatomy of a Murder & Two Hearted Ale
July 19, 2017 | Danny KingWhen I was offered an internship for the summer at the Prosecutor’s Office in a small county tucked away in the fingers of Michigan, I immediately knew my summer reading had to include Anatomy of a Murder. Anatomy of a Murder has long been hailed as one of the best examples of how law & order actually work. Besides that, it was supposed to be damned entertaining. I’ve spent the last two months learning the ins and outs of prosecuting a case both in the courtroom and through the eternal, if overly elaborate, wisdom of Robert Travers (aka former Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker) and his Trout-obsessed country lawyer in Paul Biegler.

If you haven’t seen this show, don’t fret! This Ultimate 6er doesn’t contain any spoilers, but it will introduce you to six of the main characters, each of whom have their own motivations in uncovering the truth to what happened on The Night Of. All six of these beers come from breweries within NYC’s five boroughs, where the noir-style storyline takes place. However, be forewarned – drinking a beer while watching this masterful show may result in suspense-induced drink spillage! Read More
Porchdrinking Playlist | Criminal Minds
May 24, 2016 | Danny KingLike many students around the country at various levels of education, I’m working for free and/or “experience”. After spending the last semester being completely confused about how criminal law works and what type of intent is needed for what aspect a crime (trust me, it’s harder than you think,) I decided to lean in and work at the Prosecutor’s office for the summer. It took three days of looking into criminal minds before I began to consider moving into a cave and never speaking to anyone again… because everyone in the world is terrible.

Despite being released almost two months ago, the American public is still clamoring for anything and everything regarding the case. My Facebook feed is filled with articles reviewing the facts, and two new specials, Dateline on NBC and Steven Avery: Innocent or Guilty on Investigation Discovery, aired this past weekend. So to add to the fervor, I bring you a Making A Murderer Ultimate 6er, filled with beers from The Badger State representing some of the biggest players in the series. Read More
