PorchDrinking Playlist | Springy Steps
February 17, 2015 | Ellie ThompsonWith Valentine’s Day behind us, we’ve passed a surprisingly long lull of winter—meaning, we can look forward to the quickly approaching warmth of spring. This week’s poppy British—and at times, Caribbean—vibes from bands like Madeon, Gorgon City and Duke Dumont will aid in the anticipation of the upcoming season, by adding a little “spring” in our steps.

Drew Saves Christmas Music!
December 25, 2014 | Drew Troller
Each Christmas you hear holiday songs, new and old
From carols in church to classics by Nat King Cole
But every year, all across the nation
You’ll see NEW Christmas albums in your nearest Starbucks locationYour favorite artists will sing those classics you’ve heard
But every once in awhile, they’re stumped by the words
Give it a listen, and whether you sing or you hum
There’s a few lyrics you might catch that are super-dumbSo this Christmas, PorchDrinking endeavors
To re-write dumb lyrics and make them more clever
We know we’re doing this quite late in the season
But Drew was mad about these lyrics, for some insane reason

PorchDrinking Playlist | New-Age Music
April 22, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonEach decade is known for its musical genres and proliferative sub genres (we distinguish the 60’s from the 70’s, the 80’s from the 90’s, but also the mid 80’s from the early 90’s). Many of the artists from the past few years have recycled “oldie” sounds from decades past (1980’s, 1990’s, and even 2000’s), blending the 80’s and 90’s poppy dance vibes with newer styles. For instance, releases from Chromeo, Cut Copy or Holy Ghost! have catchy elements that pay homage to the 1980’s, while incorporating rap, dance and electronic themes. This week you’ll find some of this new-age music that, though recent, may sound familiar thanks to regeneration and the appreciation of pieces of music’s history.

PorchDrinking Playlist: Underrated Bands
July 23, 2013 | Tristan ChanFinding great music can be daunting. But even more daunting is for great artists to break through the clutter and really find traction on the airwaves. While sifting through my musical libraries for this list of underrated bands, I realized that I first started listening to most of these in college. I’m not sure if that means I had awesome musical tastes in college or awful musical tastes, I choose to believe the prior.
PorchDrinking Playlist: Songs Used in Commercials
January 29, 2013 | Joshua KanSo you’re sitting on your couch checking your Facebook during commercials and a catchy tune snaps you out of your lull only to catch the last few seconds of the ad. Back to your phone as you Google the fragments of lyrics that you can remember, then to Spotify to confirm your findings, and just like that you’ve got your latest batch of great new songs.

Favorite Fall Songs Playlist
October 16, 2012 | Karen LaiOne of the reasons I love music is because it has the power to take you back to a specific time or place, just with a few chords and notes. This fall playlist is a collection of songs, new and old, that remind me of fall for some reason or another. For example: Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity” will always remind me of walking to class in the fall of my freshman year at Miami University, listening to her album on my first generation iPod (RIP). Chris Brown’s “Don’t Wake Me Up” on the other hand, is a song that I kind of hate myself for loving, but I still blast it whenever it comes on the radio. Read More
PorchDrinking Playlist: 90’s Night
