Sacred Vice Brewing | Rubbish NEIPA
March 18, 2024 | Jason MurphyPhiladelphia, PA-based Sacred Vice Brewing started as a small nanobrewery when they first launched in 2018. The brewery was founded by cousins Matt Brodsky and Justin Steinberg who, as most professional brewers do, started out homebrewing.
Beer Cocktails | The Lunchbox
March 4, 2024 | Scott JohnsonDo you ever come across a pairing so peculiar that it captures your interest? That’s what happened to me when I was exploring mixology channels on Youtube and one video grabbed my attention. The channel VladSlickBartender makes tons of slickly produced shorts talking about cocktails and bartending gadgets. Beer is normally not his modus operandi, but he took one exception talking about an American original: The Lunchbox.
11th Hour Brewing | New Cult NEIPA
March 1, 2024 | Jason MurphyThe state of Pennsylvania produces some of the best New England-style IPAs in the market right now. Pennsylvania might not be as well-known as some of the more northeastern states, but Pennsylvania is a hotbed for the style.
Prison City Brewing | DDH Riot In Vermont New England IPA
October 3, 2023 | Jason MurphyAuburn is a small city of 30,000 year-round residents located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of New York. It also happens to the home of the state’s longest running prison facility. While other big cities were dubbed “Salt City,” “Flour City,” “Nickel City,” and so on, Auburn has long carried the moniker of “Prison City.”
With the brewery’s original location a mere two blocks from the prison, the name just fit for one of the first local breweries to open within the city in nearly a century.
Kettlehead Brewing Co. | Duck Traffic New England IPA
September 26, 2023 | Jason MurphySometimes you have to just stop and smell the roses, as the age-old saying goes. Or perhaps you have to stop and let the ducks go by. That’s what happened to Sam Morrissette, co-owner and co-founder of Kettlehead Brewing Company.
What happened to Sam to give him the idea to name a beer after passing ducks? Let’s find out!
Country Boy Brewing | Witness the Citrus NEIPA
July 31, 2023 | Jason MurphyThe state of Kentucky is known for many things nationally, like basketball, bourbon and horse racing, just to name a few. You could say that Kentucky isn’t really known for craft beer on a national scale like some of the other surrounding states, but don’t let that fool you! There are a multitude of award-winning craft breweries that call the Bluegrass State home.
Southbound Brewing Co. | Cosmic Howdy New England IPA
August 26, 2022 | Jason MurphyPicture this: You’re at the beach, kicked back in your chair while soaking up the sun and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves. There’s a slight breeze blowing through, and you can hear the distant sound of sea gulls somewhere down the beach. The only thing missing is a cold craft beer to fit in your hand. While there are many beers that can work in this situation, we have the perfect suggestion for you!
Southern Grist Brewing Co. | Strange Horizons NEIPA
August 20, 2021 | Jesse ValencianaCollaborations between bands and breweries are nothing new. Run the Jewels, for example, seem to agree to beer collabs as often as they agree to play a festival. From wacky creations that never should’ve left the brains of collaborators to killer creations that you wish would never run out, the spectrum of these projects are vast. Regardless, it’s always amusing to see what folks come up with. Read More
Ellipsis Brewing | …Sunset (New England IPA)
April 15, 2021 | Michelle ThomasEllipsis Brewing out of Orlando, FL, is quickly ascending the craft beer ladder in their just over four years of being in business. Some of their top beers have been “Y Can’t IBU”, a zero-IBU Pale Ale, and Happy Pils, a joyously bright Pilsner.
Just entering their tasting room, by the way, is an experience all its own. A bold and unforgettable almost neon blue color on the wall suggests a combination of hype and chill vibes amongst this taproom.
Snowbank Brewing | Northern Lights NE IPA
March 22, 2021 | Bryan OldhamOver the last year, many local watering holes struggled to stay afloat, adapting to the norm of to-go and carry-out beers, which left little time for a wide variety of new releases. Now that there’s seemingly a light at the end of the tunnel, breweries are starting to bring some new offerings to the menus that are sure to see new customers and old friends alike excited and ready to try something different.
Snowbank Brewing recently made headlines after a snafu in canning one of their flagship beers, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t continuing to deliver consistently awesome, tasty and creative drinks. From their peanut butter Stout to a blueberry pie Sour, the variety is wide and appeals to almost everyone who stops in. Recently, Snowbank tapped a variation of their flagship Snow Juice NE IPA and provided another winner.
Xül Beer Co. | HYFR Double IPA Citra + Galaxy
March 1, 2021 | Jason MurphyWhat does one expect to experience while drinking a Double NEIPA? Are you looking for that tangy juice that hits your buds from the initial sip? Are you expecting that soft, pillowy mouthfeel that wraps around your palate like it’s being tucked into bed at night? Or, are you pining for that smooth, full-bodied liquid that plunges those tropical, fruity notes deep into your receptors telling your brain this is incredible? Maybe you can get lucky and find a beer that delivers all of that, and then some.
Pontoon Brewing | Volume Integral
February 1, 2021 | Jason MurphyThe latest and greatest New England IPA to hit my palate is Volume Integral, a hazy double IPA brewed with oats and wheat which creates a very plush mouthfeel. The oats and wheat play well with the hops used in this beer which are El Dorado, Azacca, Mosaic and Belma. All of these combined create a lot of fruit and melon flavors that are balanced very well. The hop star of the show has to be the Belma hops which tend to create an almost strawberry-like profile.
4 Noses Brewing Company | Fly to the Polls
November 2, 2020 | Seth GarlandHopefully you’ve already voted, or made plans to cast your vote for the 2020 election (if not, it’s ‘Bout Damn Time you do). In one final push to motivate voters, 4 Noses Brewing Company released their newest Hazy IPA, Fly to the Polls, on Friday.
Wolf and Warrior Brewing Company | B127 Double NE IPA
October 28, 2020 | Marc Beckley“Autobots, Transform And Roll Out!” B127 is a Double New England IPA brewed by Wolf and Warrior Brewing Company in White Plains, New York. As it should be, this NEIPA is juicy, brewed by packing together malted oats, red wheat, flaked oats, a pinch of milk sugar, pilsner and pale malts. This base then marries a double dry hop of Tahoma, Sabro, Mosaic, and of course, the inimitable Citra.
Spice Trade Brewing | Sun Temple IPA
August 20, 2020 | Nathan JahnsSpice Trade Brewing has undergone an incredible transformation since its unexpected beginnings as Yak and Yeti Brewpub, which grew as an extension of a Nepalese restaurant in Arvada, Colorado. The beer program, which opened in 2008, six years after the restaurant side, likely convinced many who came seeking authentic Nepalese fare to try a few delicious beers as well. This past spring the brewery opened its own location in the DTC, bringing much-needed variety to the area—and the tech nerds rejoiced! Read More
HenHouse Brewing Company | The Philadelphia Experiment IPA
June 18, 2020 | Constance Del RioThe arrival of graduation car parades around town serves as a reminder that we’ve hit summertime. As new grads find exciting ways to celebrate their next chapter in life in the midst of a pandemic, some counties are starting to re-open with outdoor seating. Breweries that have been permitted to open outdoor seating and on-site consumption are now a beacon for the craft beer community.
HenHouse Brewing Company, based in Santa Rosa, California, isn’t open for outdoor seating quite yet, but that’s not stopping them from having killer curbside pick-up options and putting out freshies on the reg. One such offering is The Philadelphia Experiment IPA, named after an alleged military experiment which claimed that the union of gravity and electromagnetic radiation could render something invisible. (You know, normal things.) If you’re into conspiracy theories and enjoy juicy IPAs, be sure to follow HenHouse on Instagram for all the goods coming out of this seven-year old brewery. Read More
Examining the Oskar Blues Can-O-Bliss Series
May 19, 2020 | Mathew Powers 1In this new COVID19-driven world, to-go options and canning have taken center stage in the craft beer industry. So it’s no surprise that the first brewery to put craft beer in cans, Oskar Blues, is still producing and distributing a variety of beer styles. One such collection is the Oskar Blues Can-O-Bliss IPA series, a rotating release of IPAs the brewery unveiled in 2019. The idea behind the project is to “showcase unconventional combinations of exceptional hops.” The result for beer drinkers is a series that celebrates the diversity of hop flavors and aromas.
The brewery sent PorchDrinking a few samples to try: Tropical IPA, Hazy IPA and Citra DIPA. The Tropical will return next spring, but the seasonal Hazy IPA is available now and the DIPA is a year-round treat. Oskar Blues will also release a new Citrus IPA in September 2020.

The Brewing Projekt | Dare Mighty Things IPA Series
May 13, 2020 | Marc BeckleyThe Brewing Projekt Dare Mighty Things Single Hop IPA and Double IPA are something to be grateful for during the monotonous hours of being at home. This brewery located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is almost five years young and truly making pieces of liquid art. They absolutely crush this experimental Hazy IPA series, and their fruited beers are out of this world. Don’t pass if you have an opportunity to open one of these beers. Even here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re fortunate enough to be getting a few drops every couple of weeks and the beer community couldn’t be happier. These are challenging times and this beer is a reminder that we can persevere this pandemic and all enjoy a great craft beer for some sanity.
Big Lake Brewing | Sparti Parti
March 18, 2020 | Danny KingThis was supposed to be a post about how the perfect March Beer was found; A bright St. Patrick’s green colored can that would help the run MSU was sure to go on in the NCAA tourney. But then the world decided to melt down. While unfortunately you can’t obnoxiously scream “GO GREEN” “GO WHITE” with your friends, it’s still possible to enjoy Big Lake Brewing‘s Sparti Parti IPA while barricaded in your own home.
Lone Pine Brewing Company | Chaos Emeralds
March 10, 2020 | Kailey PartinLone Pine Brewing Company is a not-to-be-missed brewery that quickly grew from a small hole in the wall spot to a major player in the New England craft beer scene. Lone Pine opened in Portland, ME’s East Bayside neighborhood in 2016; by 2019, they grew enough to warrant a major expansion in Gorham, ME. Lone Pine is known for its vibrant hop-forward American ales and, over the course of two years, Lone Pine has worked to create what they call the “quintessential NEIPA with boutique hops.” The offspring of that labor of love is their award-winning Chaos Emeralds Double IPA featuring Galaxy and Mosaic hops.
