Collaborating for a Cause | Bear: Stay Strong Alex
September 28, 2023 | Eric GriffinThe Stay Strong Alex initiative continues this week with a special iteration of Esker Hart Artisan Ale’s Bear series. With his first full-production location slated to open in early 2024, Bob D’Angelo started his brewing journey nine years ago. Early support from Alex served as a huge kick start to what has now become Esker Hart, and in the wake of his unanticipated cancer diagnosis, Bob knew that he wanted to honor and dedicate this second Blend of Bear to him in support of the long road ahead. We had a chance to talk with Bob and learn more about his history with Alex as well as the beer itself and the special raffle that was set up to help raise money for the Kidd family.

Collaborating for a Cause | For The Kidd’s
September 11, 2023 | Eric GriffinThe high-production powerhouses of the industry have been far from the only ones showing support towards Alex Kidd and his family during his continuing fight with Stage IV cancer. A collaborative effort out of New Jersey, For The Kidd’s is the next feature in a growing series highlighting the incredible support provided by the craft beer community for a craft beer icon. Chris with Shore Side Brewing allowed us the opportunity to sit down and discuss a beer that he felt was more than fitting to be released for Don’t Drink Beer.
Double Nickel Brewing Company Rebrands as Second Anniversary Approaches
October 31, 2017 | Dan BortzAfter nine months of careful planning, Double Nickel Brewing Company of Pennsauken, NJ finally unveiled its upcoming rebrand with a clean website, bold packaging, and tasting room updates in the works. The aesthetic is simple and modern while incorporating elements of vintage design. The result? A feeling of both novelty and nostalgia.
With a goal of “bridging vision and tradition” and a core series comprised of modern-brewed versions of classic beer styles, the new look more effectively conveys the personality and mission of the brewery—making beer that transcends the generational taste differences.

Ah, Jersey Girl. There are many connotations associated with this phrase, beer most likely not making the top three. Need for Better Beer Brings us Brooks Brewery in New Jersey
June 16, 2016 | Matt Saffer 1Beer is by far one of the oldest beverages ever produced by human hands. Experts agree the first beer recipes date back to at least the fifth millennium BC, and there’s written proof of recipes recorded from Egypt and Mesopotamia.
From monasteries to artisanal brews in the pre-industrial revolution onwards, to the mass-produced products of industrial manufacturing, beer has evolved and grown alongside us.There’s little doubt how vital it has become as an economic driver (US revenues were more than $100 billion in 2015) and as a driver for scientific improvements in the fields of measuring, brewery construction and fermentation.

Assuming a beer is “handcrafted” could be a mistake that your taste buds will never forgive you for. There are fully automated home brew systems out there that let you set and forget, and many big-box breweries use systems so dialed-in that human hands rarely come anywhere near the raw ingredients of the beer. Cypress Brewing in Edison, New Jersey is redefining just how hands-on handcrafted can be. Read More

To many, opening that acceptance letter to a college or university is like getting a key to a wondrous, magical place. There are aspirations of stretching one’s borders, meeting new people and trying exciting things. With a kiss to mom and dad, you’re set free into a place of questions, higher learning and generally speaking — really bad beer.
Maybe not bad per se, but at the very least inexpensive and in large quantities. And in some cases, of questionable sanitary standards.

Having been born and raised in New Jersey, I can tell you with certainty most of what you’ve heard about the Garden State on TV is true. For instance, yes, parts of the state possess what some may call an unfavorable odor. I know at least five guys named Tony, and whether your thing is the Jersey Shore or The Sopranos you know one thing about New Jersey: there’s a pizza parlor on just about every corner. Read More
