PorchDrinking Playlist | Why’d You Have to Make It Weird?
December 15, 2016 | Dan BortzYour social awkwardness has never done you any favors. In school, you were a wallflower and too scared to ask someone to dance. The cool kids and their brazen self-confidence make you unsure of yourself in conversation, as you try to put on an air of coolness for their benefit. Even the best of us have gotten nervous and spurted out word vomit, which inevitably elicits the question, “Why’d you have to make it weird?”

PorchDrinking Playlist | Thanksgiving
November 22, 2016 | Holly GerardIt’s that time of year again. The holidays have begun and Thanksgiving is already here! Be prepared (at least with the music you’re going to play) with this Thanksgiving playlist. It holds a nice mix of modern indie and americana, classical strings and piano, retro jazz, and even a little bit of 60s folk the perfect background tunes to pair with your meal. Have a great Thanksgiving!
PorchDrinking Playlist | Brown Truck Brewery
November 15, 2016 | Chris & Sylvia HollandsHave you heard the one where ‘two PorchDrinkers walk into a bar’? Probably, since you visit our site frequently enough. Although, this one is a little bit different. It all started Wednesday night during GABF week in Denver. Shortly after dropping our luggage at the hotel, we headed straight for Falling Rock Tap House. It’s always a hot spot during beer’s biggest week, and we needed to be lucky if we were going to find a place to sit to grab a bite.
PorchDrinking Playlist | Schlager From Another Mother
November 11, 2016 | Dan BortzWith the days growing shorter and the mercury dropping in the glass, it will take something more than your standard Top 40 hit to bring joy and energy back to your soul. Meet Schlager. It’s widely considered to be one of the cheesiest pop music forms in the world, but middle-aged Germans and Austrians still consume it with vigor. With danceable beats and cliche lyrical themes, you may wonder why I’d concoct such a playlist…
PorchDrinking Playlist | Fall Y’all
November 1, 2016 | Sarah BoisenHappy fall, y’all! The weather has finally taken a turn for the chilly and pumpkin spice flavored everything has made its return to basic greatness. We’re here to spice up the cozy months ahead with yet another seasonal stockpile of sounds that are old, new and pumpkin optional.

PorchDrinking Playlist | Proper Brewing Co.
September 27, 2016 | Chris & Sylvia HollandsThis place really is an adult playground. Looking to the left, we see Bill & Ted and to the right, we’re greeted by Wayne & Garth (all tanks have been given names of pop culture icons.) In the middle of it all, Jack is making beer on a home brew setup and today is in charge of the tunes at Proper Brewing Co. In between watching the boil, he takes a moment to set the next song. PorchDrinking Playlist | Fuzzy Sock Moonwalk
September 20, 2016 | Sarah BoisenAs I approached mile 3,000 on my seemingly never ending cross-county road trip, the novelty of bumping to an infinite playlist of my favorite sounds had sadly worn off. Just as mesmerizing mountains gave way to an endless expanse of less than captivating flatness, my treasured playlist suddenly found itself back to ‘Track 1’ … for about the 20th time. I quickly realized two things: one, that I had zero cell service and two, that I had made a huge rookie mistake in thinking that I could solely rely on a single playlist, no matter how fantastic, to get me across the country.

PorchDrinking Playlist | Summer Transitions

PorchDrinking Playlist | Stadium Anthems
August 9, 2016 | Chris & Sylvia HollandsCan you believe it? We blink our eyes and the year is running toward 2017! Football season is right around the corner, yet it seems just days ago we had friends over to watch the Denver Broncos hand the Carolina Panthers a loss in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium. Pre-season starts this week and the regular season gives us a revenge match between last year’s champion contenders on September 8th. Admittedly a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan – each new year brings a treasure trove of emotions. Unlike Cleveland Browns fans, we tend to believe we are winners all the time and no matter what the odds makers say, we have a chance!

PorchDrinking Playlist | Darker Shades of Sound
July 5, 2016 | Sarah BoisenEndless summers have earned their nicknames for a reason; with the persistence of light come late nights and early mornings. Despite the vibrancy of this eternal sunshine, I personally live for the hours when the sun makes way for the moon. There’s something enthralling about sinking back into the shadows to embrace the darker shades of sound. Go ahead and tuck yourself into the night as you explore this playlist, its artists, and their uniquely haunting arrays of work.
PorchDrinking Playlist | Noisy Summer
June 28, 2016 | Danny KingBack in May, I was hit by two new songs that were so fun and noisy, I fell in immediate love. Tegan & Sara’s Boyfriend (and really the whole album that it comes off of) is pure, unabashed pop perfection that had me bouncing up and down. It’s like a Patrick Nagel painting coming to life (for people who don’t know who that is, it’s like if Adult Swim’s Moonbeam City hadn’t been a disappointment.) On the flip side of that was Tyler Glen’s Trash, a middle-finger salute to the Mormon Church. While the song is dark and full of angst and reverb, it’s layering of sound hit me in the exact same way as Boyfriend — a bunch of noisy pieces that add up to a fun whole in a way that normal band instruments just can’t capture. After eating up all my phone’s data playing them on Youtube while I drove, I decided to capture this wall-of-noise sound I wanted for my noisy summer.
PorchDrinking Playlist | 1987
June 14, 2016 | Chris & Sylvia HollandsIt’s always interesting to group a bunch of similar items together and see how they compare — like getting your friends together for a delicious IPA bottle share, or sitting around discussing who the greatest quarterback of all time is. Time to revisit one of our first ever PorchDrinking playlists. We put together a playlist full of artists who were all born in 1986 and it was interesting to hear the common themes in the music. Let’s go back in time again… to 1987! Read More
Porchdrinking Playlist | Criminal Minds
May 24, 2016 | Danny KingLike many students around the country at various levels of education, I’m working for free and/or “experience”. After spending the last semester being completely confused about how criminal law works and what type of intent is needed for what aspect a crime (trust me, it’s harder than you think,) I decided to lean in and work at the Prosecutor’s office for the summer. It took three days of looking into criminal minds before I began to consider moving into a cave and never speaking to anyone again… because everyone in the world is terrible.

PorchDrinking Playlist | Songs With Beer Names
April 12, 2016 | Holly GerardThis playlist is full of songs with beer names, or is it beers with song names?! Either way, some of the beers included in the list are actually named for the song of their same likeness but others are just coincidence! Read More
