PorchDrinking Playlist | Kanye vs. Jay Z
June 9, 2015 | Ellie ThompsonIndecisiveness can be quite crippling, can’t it? One recent, important decision-making moment that comes to mind was when I was tasked with choosing a jar to drop tip money at a coffee shop: Kanye or Jay Z?

Regardless of your music taste, there’s something on this March Madness playlist for everyone! Read More
PorchDrinking Playlist | On Tour: Sylvan Esso
March 17, 2015 | Ellie ThompsonSylvan Esso, an electro-folk-pop duo hailing from Appalachia, is currently making headway in their tour of the United States; this past weekend they sold out The Metro in Chicago (a venerable feat for a group that formed in less than two years ago). In the upcoming months they can be found performing for millions of musicophiles at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Hangout, Firefly and Eaux Claires music festivals. This playlist pays homage to Sylvan Esso’s roots, bands Mountain Man and Megafaun, in addition to music groups that have similar electro-poppy and folksy vibes.
PorchDrinking Playlist | Springy Steps
February 17, 2015 | Ellie ThompsonWith Valentine’s Day behind us, we’ve passed a surprisingly long lull of winter—meaning, we can look forward to the quickly approaching warmth of spring. This week’s poppy British—and at times, Caribbean—vibes from bands like Madeon, Gorgon City and Duke Dumont will aid in the anticipation of the upcoming season, by adding a little “spring” in our steps.

January 27, 2015 | Ellie ThompsonForces from the East and West collide this weekend to decide who will be this year’s indomitable NFL team. Whilst the cacophony of smashing helmets and roaring crowds can be enthralling, here at PorchDrinking we pay homage to the more refined sounds from these coastal regions. So sit back and tip back a cold one to the coastal melodies of this super awesome, Super Bowl playlist. Read More

Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, this week’s playlist features songs of recognition and gratefulness. Whether it be Röyksopp’s futuristic cognizance of friendship, Earth, Wind & Fire’s gospel praise “Gratitude”, or Chance the Rapper’s affection for family, these songs surely subsume the various ways to give thanks. And if one Thanksgiving playlist wasn’t enough, perhaps revisit our offering from last year. Thanks for listening! Read More

PorchDrinking Playlist | Cut Copy
September 23, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonThe Australian electronic band Cut Copy, though formed in 2001, has become more successful these past few years with their appearance at large music festivals such as Governors Ball, SxSW and Lollapalooza, as well as the release of their hit albums “In Ghost Colours” and “Free Your Mind.” Their eclectic pop vibes, though youthful and lighthearted, are admirable and majestic, despite their seasoned veteran status. This playlist features some of the best Cut Copy songs, in my opinion, yet also includes singles from other bands that have similarly fresh sounds.

PorchDrinking Playlist | Sunroof Open, Windows Down
July 8, 2014 | Kevin RisnerAfter years of not doing so, I decided in 2010 that the time was right to put together some of my favorite songs of the moment onto a CD. I would play these songs in my car as I drove around the city or along the interstate with the windows down, basking in the summer months and the sun and the warm weather.
It’s become a tradition now to do this every year. At the start of the year, I closely explore a variety of songs that might fit well together. Soon after I begin looking for summer-y songs, I notice a possible theme emanating from the endless songs I find or are recommended.
