Event Recap | 2021 Great Taste of the Midwest
August 16, 2021 | Mike ZollerSince 1987, the Great Taste of the Midwest has been a chance for Midwest breweries and beer lovers to converge on Madison, Wisconsin to enjoy some of the region’s best beers. This past Saturday the tradition continued with some new safety precautions, but that didn’t impact the festival which once again brought the beer community together.
PorchDrinking’s Best in Beer 2019 | Mountain Region
January 2, 2020 | Tristan ChanIt’s been an interesting year in beer to say the least. This year we set out to explore a wider array of breweries and beers and came back pretty surprised by what we discovered. And while it would be nearly impossible to break down the best beers from 2019, we looked back on some of our favorites from the past year as well as some of the most stand-out breweries, beer festivals and stories from 2019. Enough exposition, let’s get straight to the honors.

Event Recap | Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival 2017
August 30, 2017 | Cory PelcWe came. We roasted. We toasted.
But we did it. We puffed and chugged our way through our fourth Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival on Saturday, August 26th, after enjoying a day in the sun to sip suds and puff clouds of grey smoke. As the festival ‘wrapped’ up, we reminisced about our favorite pour, favorite puff and the many take-aways a festival like this can present. As we ventured out to document the festivities and to bring back some new recommendations for you to try, with our lungs charred and our palates shot, we come back with hope you take a few moments to check out these great photos showcasing the event and hope to see you there next year!
45 Events and Moments That Made Us Drink in 2016

There is no doubt about it: 2016 has been a year.
I would say that it has been a rollercoaster, but the cliche does not do it justice. This year has not been a rollercoaster. This year has been a journey through the entire amusement park – with that park being haunted by ghosts, designed by aliens, and operated by zombies – all the while being secretly funded by the next President of the United States. Oh – and on top of all of this, there is no escaping the park because they have locked the gates, thrown away the keys, and sentenced you to misery by playing MMMBop by Hanson on the park speakers on repeat. It never stops. There is no stopping the bop.

August 23, 2016 | Cory PelcCigar purists are just like craft beer purists. That’s not a defamatory statement. That’s a big compliment. They embrace and showcase the vibrancy of their industry, the love of the leaf and the camaraderie that goes hand in hand with their hobby. They fight against regulation and the proverbial ‘man’ that holds them down, that tries to snub them out. While we feel their pain with the latter and their ongoing trials and tribulations with smoking ban after smoking ban, we see the big brands buying up our favorite craft breweries and controlling their distribution.

With a year under our belt, Chris Day and myself ventured back up to Broomfield for our second Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival over the weekend. We recruited our old friends Will Dozier and Lynn Thayer to help us celebrate festivities and help out with photography. We’ll recap our travels and triumphs here and would love to hear everyone else’s feedback as well.
Festival Recap | Denver Bacon and Beer Festival 2014
November 18, 2014 | Cory PelcBuilding upon the vibrant culinary and brew-scene in Denver, Eat Boston and Denver Off the Wagon have brought back THE festival to elevate craft beer to the next level by pairing it with the culinary excellence and prowess of every carnivore’s favorite ingredient, BACON. The Denver Bacon and Beer Festival 2014 was hosted by the Curtis Hotel downtown and was scheduled on a Sunday from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Our Denver PorchDrinking staffers strolled up in the Curtis with smiles from ear-to-ear to imbibe and nosh at the festival’s third iteration; it’s first time at this location. What was our favorite dish? Favorite brew? Follow along to see . . .
Festival Recap | Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival 2014
August 26, 2014 | Cory Pelc 8The theme for the day: Smoke Em If You Got Em! Or better yet, Drink Em If You Got Em! And so it goes, that’s just what Christopher Day and I did! The phrase “Smoke ’em if You Got ’em” or “Smoke if You Got ’em” is slang for “do what you want, if you have the means”. The phrasing was popular in the military during World War II, meaning to take a break. Officers would say “Smoke ’em if you got ’em”, allowing the soldiers to take a break and smoke their cigarettes. Where we were going, we didn’t need an approval to break from anyone. Turn Down for What! We were about to step inside the Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival. Fine cigars from manufacturers such as Drew Estates, Nat Sherman and Rocky Patel, microbrews from Crazy Mountain and Boulder Beer, local spirits from Peach Street and Feisty, hot cars, live music, & all the finer things in life. We also learned a ridiculous amount about cigar and beer pairing and what works and what does not.
