Cooking With Cider | Spicy Pineapple Salsa with Blake’s Hard Cider El Chavo
May 4, 2018 | Samantha StoryThis is my favorite time of year — the warm weather has arrived, daylight is lasting just a little bit longer each day and the flavors of the season are in abundance. I truly get excited when the pineapples are put out on display at my local produce market because that means it’s salsa time! Since Cinco de Mayo is here, I felt there was no better time than now to make my favorite spicy pineapple salsa. This time, I’m throwing in a little twist with this fresh dip. My secret ingredient — mango habanero cider!
Cinco de Mayo Beer Cocktails with Manayunk Brewing Company’s El Rio Lager
May 4, 2017 | Samantha StoryThis recipe is featured on These Are My Storys.
When you think of Cinco de Mayo, what comes to mind? I think of margaritas, guacamole, lots of fajitas and, of course, cervezas! Capitalized on by the beer industry in the 1980’s, Cinco de Mayo has become synonymous with parties, fun, and lots of booze. So, in honor of this 5th of May, I decided to take my own spin on a cerveza with two variations of beer cocktails. Both pack a spicy kick, yet are refreshing and go down so easy! To create these cocktails, I decided to use a local Philadelphia brewery’s version of a Mexican-style lager, Manayunk Brewing Company’s El Rio.
Hopworks Urban Brewery – Abominable Winter Ale
November 11, 2013 | Andy HagemannIt’s that time of year. The temperatures have begun to tickle the freezing mark and now that I’m in Oregon, the rains have come. Yes, the fabled northwest rains that have prompted me to eat Vitamin D tablets like candy and consider purchasing a sun lamp. The other remedy for this otherwise depressing weather? A delicious, flavorful winter beer that warms the soul; a beer that is a little more malt-forward, slightly higher in ABV, and has the right spiciness and flavor that reminds me of the holidays. That’s what I have found in the Hopworks Urban Brewery Abominable Winter Ale.
New Belgium Brewery- Cocoa Mole Ale

Mexican food is by far my favorite of the cuisine nationalities. You’ve got corn, beans, cheese, spices, chili peppers… oh god, the chili peppers. No meal is complete without some heat. Personally, I like my mouth to be in so much pain that I have to order more salsa just to try to cool it down. So to say that I’m a fan of chili beers is a bit of an understatement.
Black Mountain Brewing Co. – Cave Creek Chili Beer

My fascination with chili beer started this summer, and as you may recall from an earlier post, I’ve been searching for that spicy, smoky flavor ever since.
