Welcome back to another installment of PorchDrinking’s Weekly Denver Beer Beat. The Denver Beer Beat brings news of openings, special tappings, firkins and one-off batches, bottle releases, dinners, pairings, anniversaries, tap takeovers etc.

Wednesday, September 10th

Hops & Pie Artisan Pizzeria and Craft Brew Taproom (Berkeley) – Wednesday is $2 Craft Can Night from 5pm-close at Hops and Pie.  This week’s artisan sandwich of the week is: Southern fried chicken, aged white cheddar, sweet potato puree, bacon, and red eye gravy on our House griddled roll!!!

Powder Keg Brewing Co (Niwot) – NEW BEER ON TAP: PKBC just tapped Haystack Hopback Fresh Hop Pale Ale. 30lbs of Cascade and Chinook Hops from their friend Sam down the road that filled their hopback to max capacity! It has huge grapefruit and pine aromas with a well balanced malt backbone and a dry finish. $6/pint! Beers Made By Walking: GABF Edition (LoDo/Union Station) – Just a heads up, but Beers Made By Walking festival tickets are on sale! Don’t be left out! The festival will feature over 32 place-based and landscape inspired beers! Most of the beers at the festival were created specifically for this event. Tickets are $40 and give visitors unlimited access to the beers, until they run out. More info and tickets can be found here.

Westminster Brewing Co. (Westminster) – Westminster Brewing has 4 extra tickets to the Great American Beer Festival and will be doing a raffle giveaway on Sept. 27th. For the month of September, customers can purchase a raffle ticket for $3 in which the proceeds will be going to the Westminster Legacy Foundation.  Who doesn’t love the chance to win tickets to GABF all while helping out a great cause?!

Copper Kettle Brewing CO (Southeast’est Denver) – Every Wednesday, CKBC releases a fun and interesting one off cask. This week, CKBC release their Raspberry Saison. This farmhouse ale is a Raspberry Rye. This Saison will have rye grain and fresh raspberries added giving it a sour and spicy taste! CKrêpes & CKatering will be here serving up their amazing homemade, gourmet cuisine and desserts!

Frasca Food & Wine (Boulder) – BEER DINNER WITH VICTORY BREWING CO – Frasca Food and Wine is pleased to welcome Victory Brewing Company and its co-founder, President and Brewmaster Bill Covaleski to the restaurant Wednesday, September 10, for a Guest Brewer Dinner. Covaleski will join co-owners, chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson and Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and the team at Frasca for a 6-course dinner with 6 beer pairings: Whirlwind Witbier, Prima Pils, HopDevil IPA, Summer Love Ale, Storm King Stout, Golden Monkey Tripel! You won’t want to miss this mid-week meal! The event will begin at 6:00pm on September 10, and will be held in Frasca’s private dining room The Taverna Room. High Hops Brewery (Windsor) – FIRKIN RELEASE at 5pm. High Hops will tap a firkin of their “Spongebob Saison Pants” pineapple saison.

River North Brewery (Denver) – River North Brewery has another gem for today’s Wayward Wednesday, they’ll tap a single keg of Cascade-dry-hopped River North White! First pours at 3pm. In other news, the beer for their Kansas City rollout is on the way! Truck loaded today, they’ll see all you Kansas and Missouri fans starting Monday! Cheers on the distro expansion RNB!

Ale House at Amato’s (Highlands) – If you’re down in the Highlands area in Denver on Wednesday night, Ale House at Amato’s is havin’ an OB Farm to Table Beer Dinner at 6PM. Station 26 Brewing Co (North Park Hill) – 4pm – WEEKLY FIRKIN TAPPING – This week’s offering a big, juicy Peach Blonde Ale.

Crystal Springs Brewing Co (Louisville) – Crystal Springs Brewing Co will have a beer tap takeover at Lulu’s Barbeque in Louisville on Thursday, September 11.

Baere Brewing Co (Denver) – Baere Brewing will be tapping 5 gallons of a Strawberry Basil Saison today!

Euclid Hall (LoDo/CBD) – This Thursday Euclid Hall will be kicking off their Road to GABF beer dinner series with Odell Brewing and they couldn’t be more excited!

Dorchester Social Eatery (LoDo/Union Station) – Victory Brewing Company will be joining Dorchester Social Eatery on the rooftop to feature four great Victory Brewing beers paired with a special four course menu prepared by our chef Michel Wahaltere. We’ll see you there!

Overdue Event - dbb - 09-11-14

McNichols Building (Civic Center) – OVERDUE: Beer, Books and Band Together At Last – Celebrate 125 years of the Denver Public Library, and look to the future with the launch of Volume Denver, the Library’s new online collection of local music.  Enjoy live music, beer samples from local brewers, birthday cupcakes from Cake Crumbs Bakery, and a sampling of Denver’s best food trucks.

Ian Cooke, Pure Fiction and Plat Maravich will be performing!

Great DivideProst BrewingStation 26  and Jagged Mountain will be serving!

Meatball Food Truck and OT. GO Mobile Food Cafe will be serving!

Proceeds benefit the Denver Public Library. Re-Entry is permitted at this event. Children are welcome. On the day-of the event, ticket prices will be the same as listed online.

Friday, September 1st

Diebolt Brewing Company (Sunnyside) – Diebolt is tapping their Wethers Weizenbock this Friday the 12th.  Bready, chocolaty, dark fruit, vanilla and subtle banana notes abound in this high strength take on a Dunkelweizen. “Everyone makes Oktoberfest/Marzen this time of year,” said brewery co-founder Jack Diebolt, “we wanted something German with just a little more kick and flavor.” and at 7.4% and fermented with a Hefeweizen yeast this beer delivers just that. Wethers Weizenbock will join the cast of nine other brews on tap at its Sunnyside tasting room. The beer will be available when the tasting room opens at 4 p.m. Friday.

Lowry Beer Garden (Lowry Field) – September 12th and 13th, Lowry Beer Garden will strike up the band again this year for Oktoberfest, celebrating the German-style beer party for three weekends in a row. And this year, the spot’s new sister location, Green Valley Ranch Beer Garden, will also celebrate. Dry Dock Brewing will take over the taps today and tomorrow, from 5 to 9 p.m., pouring Oktoberfest, U-Boat Hefeweizen and Apricot Ale. There will also be Oom-Pah bands in the house each weekend, including Austrian Connection, The Rhinelanders and the Peter Kron Band – not to mention Lowry’s collection of brats and dogs. So, dust off your dirndl, polka shoes and lederhosen for this annual fall tradition. Anyone wearing the getup gets their first beer free.

Station 26 Brewing Co. (North Park Hill) – SPECIAL TAPPING – S26B taps their Wet Hop Centennial Pale Ale! These hops were harvested at Rising Sun Farms in Paonia and added to the hop back less than 24 hours later.

Breckenridge Brewery (Breckenridge) – ROADTRIP TO OKTOBERFEST!!!! – The 20th Annual Breckenridge Oktoberfest will celebrate 20 years with a three-day celebration Sept. 12-14 in downtown Breckenridge, Colo. The event – which in past years saw some 8,000 gallons of beer and more than a mile of pretzels consumed – kicks off with the Paulaner Brewmaster’s Dinner featuring an elegant five-course beer or wine pairing meal at Spencer’s in the Beaver Run Resort. Telluride Blues & Brews Festival (Telluride) – BEER AND BLUES ROADTRIP! – Telluride Blues & Brews festival celebrates great beer and great tunes with a three-day celebration Sept. 12-14 with 56 Breweries and 170 different beers. Not to miss event! Tickets can be found here.

Saturday, September 13th

Copper Kettle Brewing Co (Southeast Denver) – “Off Flavors Seminar“- 1pm – CKBC will be hosting a Beer Off-flavor sensory course with Head Brewer and Owner, Jeremy Gobien and Certified Cicerone, Paul Mahoney. Ever wonder why some beers taste odd to you? CKBC will be discussing chemical off-flavors that arise in the production of beer, what they taste like and how these flavors happen. Attendees will receive a commemorative tasting glass! River North Brewery (Ballpark/Five Points) – On Saturday, September 13th at 1 pm, River North will re-introduce Barrel Blonde, a Belgian-style blonde ale aged one of three ways – in bourbon, Manhattan or Boulevardier cocktail barrels – then blended. The result is a beer of indescribable complexity. Both draft pours and bombers-to-go will be available at the taproom during the release party. Bombers will cost $15 with limit of three. With 147 cases total, more bottles will arrive on Colorado shelves the week after the taproom release. The Kansas City Metro area will see bottles a few weeks later.

elktoberfest - dbb - 09-15-14

Elk Mountain Brewing (Parker) – Elk Mountain Brewing hosts their Elktoberfest celebration this Saturday from 12pm to close with beer, live music, Krug holding competitions and German Bratwurst with all the fixings!

The Brew Hut (Aurora) – The Brew Hut now offers homebrew classes! These introductory classes will give you the basics that you need to get started in homebrewing. Each class will feature a hands-on demonstration, a bottling demonstration, and homebrew sampling. Classes cost $25 for one person and $40 for two people. Each class is limited to 8 participants. Oskar Blues (Lyons) – #VivaLyons at Bohn Park, Lyons is this weekend! Viva Lyons is an event of remembrance, marking the one-year anniversary of the devastating floods that caused great damage throughout the Colorado Front Range, and celebration, saluting the resilience and rebuilding efforts of hard-hit towns like Lyons… and it’s FREE! Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) – On Saturday September 13th, Funkwerks will release “Oud Bruin”, a Belgian Style Sour Ale. The Funkwerks sour beer program was launched in early 2012 to produce traditional beers of the Flemish region of Belgium. The Oud Bruin is a blend of one and two year old beers from a variety of oak barrels. Pouring with a deep auburn hue, this beer exhibits aromas of black cherry, raisin, and dark chocolate. Long, slow fermentation with a blend of Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and other sour cultures contribute the characteristic tart flavor profile of this style. Enjoy this wonderfully complex beer that has been years in the making.

Denver Beer Co (Sunnyside) – Get ready for Denver Beer Co’s Inaugural Harvest Party set for Saturday, September 13th from 2pm to 6pm at their new Canworks facility. This party marks the official Grand Opening of their Canworks production facility. They will be offering brewery tours, fall harvest games, a new HEY! PUMPKIN can release, live bluegrass music, food trucks and a pig roast! Plus, for those who love a good bike ride, they will meet at their Platte Street location and ride in a Denver Beer Co. bike crew up to Canworks for the party! The bike crew will leave the Platte Street taproom at 1:45, so be here before then to pregame. Don’t want to ride your bike? No problem! Just meet them there and get ready for some fall time fun! Tickets are available on brownpapertickets.com. $30 gets you all you can drink beer and a chunk of the roasted pig!

Monday, September 15th

Platt Park Brewing Co (Platt Park) – In case you missed it, the original Denver Pearl Brewing Company name had to be changed to help that brewery avoid legal issues. So the brewery took the legality with a grain of salt and they hosted a Name Changing Party. Last week they revealed their new name as Platt Park Brewing Co. Same location, same great beer – now just under a new name.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Five Points) – DENVER STARTUP WEEK EVENT – 5 – 6:30pm – Colorado State University Fermentation Sciences program —- Panelists include: Chad Yakobson, Owner and Brewer at Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project and Jeffrey Callaway, Director of Industry Outreach in Fermentation Science and Technology at CSU. Enjoy an educational and fun happy hour at the Crooked Stave taproom in The Source, hosted by the Colorado State University Fermentation Sciences program in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Mingle with startup brewers and learn about cutting-edge new degree at CSU that prepares students for a career in fermentation science. In addition to samples of a variety of craft beers, attendees will also enjoy catering utilizing fermented food products to compliment the beer menu. Participants can also enjoy an interactive beer-perience, such as tapping a brew made especially for Denver Startup Week or voting on ingredients that will go into a beer brewed after Denver Startup Week, and participants will be invited to a tasting on campus when the craft brew is ready.

Black Shirt Brewing (Five Points) – DENVER STARTUP WEEK EVENT – 11am – 12:30pm – The Small-Batch Manufacturing Tour Series: Manufacturing is no longer for just the large-scale producers and fabricators. Tour the BSB facility and have your questions answered.

Crystal Springs Brewing Co (Louisville) – Crystal Springs Brewing Co. is hosting a Food Drive as part of Hunger Action Month for their neighbors, Community Food Share. They will be collecting in their tap room for one week.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) – LADIES ONLY EVENT! Join in on the fun at Upslope’s Flatiron Park tap room as they kick off their first event in a series of women’s Nights with Barley’s Angels of Colorado. Stop in on Tuesday, September 16th from 7pm to 9pm for Beer + Donuts. For $15, sample 4 gourmet donuts with 4 beer styles. Get a lesson on food and beer pairings, and then get creative with pairings of your own. Tickets are available at the door or online.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Five Points) – Keep the Glass #12! Every Tuesday for $10 you get an artist series glass (10oz) and three fills (under 8% abv). Every month (or while supplies last), Our Mutual Friend will feature a new artist. Support local art and local suds!

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) – Today is Double Stamp Tuesday! And their cooler is full of yummy beer. You can receive a stamp (or two on Tuesdays) for a 4-pack, but you can only redeem a full stamp card for a 750ml bottle.

Saturday, September 20th – Our Mutual Friend Anniversary Party – head to OMF (Five Points) from 2pm to midnight for $3 pours all day & a very limited bottle release of our wine barrel aged Dark Sour Ale.

Saturday, September 20th – Colorado Plus Oktoberfest Party! Colorado Plus (Wheat Ridge) will celebrate their 1st Annual Oktoberfest Party with Oktoberfest Biers, food, festival music, giveaways and more.
