Event Recap | Hops + Handrails

Event Recap | Hops + Handrails
Desiree Duzich

Last weekend, Left Hand Brewing Company brought back one of their main events of the spring season, Hops + Handrails. While it was only in its third year in existence, Hops + Handrails perfectly captures the state’s passion for winter sports and craft beer.

Being the tenured snowboarder I am, I was excited to be in attendance for an event that ties both my love of craft beer and what I like to call “steeze”. If you don’t know what that means, look it up on urban dictionary. Imagine this: 50 craft breweries from all over the United States paired with a ramp and rail jam competition featuring some of the top aspiring professional riders from across the country capped off with great live music. What did I say: steeze!

For those of you who may have attended, or did not attend; you might have not realized, but the proceeds of Hops + Handrails not only benefit the Left Hand Brewing Foundation, but they take a prime focus in raising money for SOS Outreach. If you are unaware of SOS Outreach, they are “a youth development nonprofit that fosters self-confidence, leadership skills, and positive decision making in underserved youth. SOS programs are unique in their use of adventure sports to engage participants for future success.” For more information you can check out the SOS website: http://sosoutreach.org.

I had the pleasure of meeting the founder, Arn Menconi, at another SOS fundraiser event in Vail, Colorado earlier in 2014. He’s been running the SOS program for a little over 20 years now and they have especially been successful with raising money for SOS through Hops + Handrails.

After 5 hours (Left Hand Brewing can be clever) of enjoying great music, gnarly tricks, and plenty of brews, the event had come to a close. Winners were announced, and rewarded with some great cash prizes.
