Beer For Good: Pure Project | Rewild

Since its inception in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, Pure Project has always placed an emphasis on environmental stewardship and sustainability. The now San Diego-based brewery celebrated its 10th Anniversary in January, but they’ve been fighting the good fight since day one. Pure Project is a 1% For The Planet company, meaning they donate 1% of all sales, not just profits, to environmental non-profits. And they don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk.

The certified Climate Neutral brewery has donated over $500,000 to non-profit partners and is well on its way to reaching its goal of planting 150,000 trees by 2030. They call it “Beer for Good,” and the goodness is just getting started. Earlier this week, Pure launched a new year-round core beer called Rewild, a West Coast Pale Ale. The beer is good, and it does well. Win-win. Pure has partnered with international conservation organization WILDCOAST for this project.

WILDCOAST focuses its efforts on mangrove forest restoration in Mexico, home to the fourth-largest mangrove area in the world. “Mangrove forests are one of the most powerful natural climate solutions on the planet,” says WILDCOAST Executive Director and Co-founder, Serge Dedina, Ph.D. “Our partnership with Pure Project, especially through a dedicated beer like Rewild, provides the crucial support needed to scale up our restoration efforts, engage local communities, and put more trees in the ground. Together, we are creating a tangible, measurable impact on these globally significant ecosystems.” Do good, drink good, feel good. Cheers to that.

As for the beer, Pure Project is well-known for its “murky” Hazy IPAs, but Rewild is a little more retro. It’s exactly what one would expect from a West Coast Pale: hop-forward and clear, with a pleasant bitterness bite. Much like the can it comes in, this one is crisp, clean, and golden. Aromas fall somewhere between zest and stonefruit, depending on the sniff. Citra and Centennial offer flavors of grapefruit, citrus peel, and pine. At 5% ABV, Rewild goes down nice and easy, perfect for sippin’ around the campfire after a day spent outdoors. Pair it with a pepperoni and mushroom pizza picnic and a scenic vista view.

“When it came to finding the right partner for Rewild, the answer was clear,” shares Mat Robar, co-founder of Pure Project. “WILDCOAST has been doing critical, on-the-ground conservation work for decades, and their ongoing efforts to actively rewild and restore Mexico’s mangrove forests represent the kind of meaningful impact we wanted this beer to stand behind.” Rewild is the first beer Pure has added to its core lineup since 2023. Here’s to hoping Rewild is here for a good time and a long time, as it works to restore Mexican mangroves pint by pint.
