Boys Are From Märzen Podcast | Jessi Flynn Kweza Craft Brewery
In Episode 27 of the “Boys Are From Märzen” podcast, Jessi Flynn of Kweza Craft Brewery in Kigali, Rwanda joins Kindsey Bernhard.
Flynn is the managing director of Kweza Craft Brewery, the first craft brewery in Rwanda; it is also owned and led by women.
Josephine “Fina” Uwineza, a Rwandan entrepreneur and successful restaurateur, is the main reason for this project. Uwineza shared her idea of opening a brewery in Rwanda with Nancy Coldham, a Toronto-based consultant, who reached out to The Ontario Craft Brewers association. The rest is history.
Kweza Craft Brewery started as a Kickstarter campaign in 2016 with the assistance of Ontario’s Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. Support quickly flooded in to make this project happen.
Flynn is now joined by Josephine, a Rwandan assistant brewer who has been brewing traditional sorghum beer for 25 years ,and Deb Leatt, a Zimbabwean woman who is also the owner of Food & Stuff.
Kweza Craft Brewery plans to officially open later this year.
