On the Shortest Day of the Year, City Star Brewing Releases Widow Maker Imperial Stout

City Star Brewing is celebrating the Winter Solstice on December 21 with a day of entertainment in downtown Berthoud. This year, the event will be topped off by the release of Widow Maker, a full imperial stout brewed to celebrate the shortest day of the year. Visitors can sip on beer, listen to live music and interact with a myriad of vendors.

According to a press release from City Star Brewing, Widow Maker will be available on draft and in 16oz. cans alongside toasted coconut, coffee and vanilla variants.

This nod to the Winter Solstice boasts a big, bold and complex flavor profile. Smooth, rich and ready to sip and savor. Not for the faint hearted. This beer will be rolling out with our 2025 commemorative winter solstice glasses. Glasses and cans will be available for purchase in the taproom starting at noon 12/21.

A variety of vendors and pop-up shops will be available all day at the downtown Berthoud taproom bringing the spirit of the holiday to life. Attendees throughout the day include aura photos, flower crowns, permanent jewelry, hair tinsel, tarot card readings, guided meditation and sound bath experience. Berthoud’s local cuisine The Taco Man food truck will be serving out front noon-8pm and live music featuring Late for supper kicks off at 6pm.

The Solstice is a celebration of the return of the Light. It is indeed the twenty four hour period when the day-time or light is shortest and the night is longest, but the very next day is when the daytime starts to become longer! This brings hope and light for better things to come, along with our dreams, and hopes for love and all good things “coming to light”.
