Creature Comforts to Open Los Angeles Taproom & Production Facility
Creature Comforts, which has long garnered national attention from its humble roots located in an old tire shop in downtown Athens, Georgia is no stranger to making headlines.
Back in 2019, they made a superhero-sized splash as audiences around the world saw not one, but two of their fan-favorite year-round beers star on screen. This, of course, was in the highest-grossing movie of all time, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame.
Tropicalia and Athena took the place of Thor’s hammer and ax in several scenes which sent Georgia beer and movie lovers into a craze. And now it seems Hollywood’s allure has remained with the Creature Comforts team as yesterday they announced plans to open a 3,000 sq. ft. taproom alongside a 10,000 sq. ft production facility at 1124 San Julian St in L.A.’s fashion district.
Creature Comforts, which still currently only distributes within state lines has been a staple and major contributor to Georgia’s growing beer scene since 2014. Creature Comforts’ popularity has continued to rise due to their six, strong year-round offerings and limited releases. The taproom in downtown Athens, Ga, has become one of the most popular spots to grab a beer, especially since Georgia changed laws allowing breweries to sell directly to consumers in 2017.
In 2018, Creature Comforts acquired a secondary production house in an industrial district outside of downtown. This allowed the taproom to expand seating inside. The taproom also boasts an outdoor patio, so as the expansions continue to pile on, it made sense for them to finally go beyond the borders of Georgia.
Many fans of the brewery have long hoped for an Atlanta-area taproom, but the stardom of Creature Comforts was evidently meant for bigger craft beer scenes.
Creature Comforts is no stranger to California, as they have frequently collaborated with popular breweries within the state such as Highland Park Brewery, Alvarado Street Brewing, and Modern Times, among others. They also have a key partnership with filmmaker Joe Russo, whose love for Tropicalia gave some breath to this idea.
If there is a beer that is made for Southern California, it’s Tropicalia.
The facility is aiming to produce up to 15,000 bbls annually and bring more than a handful of jobs as reported by Yvonne Zusel of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Hopefully, for craft beer drinkers and the community in Los Angeles, Creature comforts will also bring their Get Comfortable program with them. This program has promoted and helped community organizations and people through the premise of sharing great beer for a greater cause.
Creature Comforts is planning to open this third facility in the Summer of 2021, which will be just a few months after their Seventh Anniversary.
