New Orleans-Based Urban South Brewery Expands to Houston

New Orleans-Based Urban South Brewery Expands to Houston

Houston’s beer scene continues to grow with the addition of award-winning Urban South Brewery’s first expansion outside of New Orleans. A satellite brewery, Urban South – HTX will focus on creative experimental beers in Houston’s Sawyer Yards District, including the hazy IPAs they are well-known for.

The new operation is not intended to copy the beers from the original location. Instead, the team plans to focus on Houston-specific innovative beers. In order to achieve that goal, the Urban South – HTX team is comprised of General Manager Dave Ohmer, R&D Brewer Justin Slanina and Taproom Manager Marin Slanina, all of whom hail from the highly esteemed B-52 Brewing in Conroe, TX.

“We wanted our very first satellite brewery to celebrate the deep connection between the cities of Houston and New Orleans,” said Jacob Landry, Urban South Brewery’s founder. “After months of planning and construction, we’re excited to finally open the doors. We’re thrilled to be part of the Houston community and can’t wait to share our passion for great beer with our new friends and neighbors.”

The 14,000 square-foot space is anchored by a 10-barrel research and development brewing operation along with a dedicated barrel and blending room. Guests visiting the brewery will enjoy a public taproom with a large patio and beer garden with plenty of event space.

Doors open to the public on February 29, 2020 at noon for the Grand Opening Celebration. However, if you want to get a sneak peak before they are open to the public, you can snag a ticket to one of the VIP preview events.
