Despite the sheer multitude of breweries that now make up Denver’s elite-level craft beer scene, it might be surprising to find that a majority of the 80+ breweries found in the Denver metro area have only been around for five years or less. All of that is to say that Denver’s Goldspot Brewing has a lot to celebrate this weekend as it commemorates its seventh anniversary with a weekend of special collaboration releases.

Over the past two years, the small, but mighty brewery, has seen a lot of change and renewed momentum. The most significant change occurred at the ownership level. Kelissa Heiber, who joined Goldspot as a bartender just five months after they opened their doors, would eventually move over to the production side rising to become their head brewer. In 2018 when original founders Matt Hughes & Alex Sward decided to sell the brewery, Heiber became a 30% owner alongside Ryan and Winnie DuBois, and just this past year, she would buy out full ownership of the brewery. With this change, Heiber joined Lady Justice Brewing’s Betsy Lay as a minority group of gay women brewers who also own and operate their own breweries outright.

Like most neighborhood breweries, Goldspot began ramping up their canning capabilities with the onset of the pandemic and has recently gone full bore on packaged beers by investing in a canning line with their friends at Lady Justice Brewing.

Since taking over as Goldspot’s sole owner, Heiber has spearheaded a slew of collaborations both locally and nationally teaming up with the likes of Lady Justice, Jagged Mountain, Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Zymos Brewing, and Rhinegeist Brewing out of Heiber’s hometown of Cincinnati, OH. But for this weekend’s anniversary celebration, Goldspot has pulled out all the stops with seven collaborations and several specialty in-house releases as well.
