When I moved away from Cincinnati, my favorite homesickness remedy was a pint of Graeter’s black raspberry chip ice cream. Growing up, Graeter’s ice cream was quintessential Cincinnati fare; finding out it was available in my grocer’s freezer section was cause for celebration.

Now there’s a new reason to celebrate: a Graeter’s beer is coming.

The ice cream maker which has been making dreams come true since 1870 is joining with Braxton Brewing Co. in Covington (just across the river from Cincinnati) to make the ultimate fantasy. The Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Milk Stout uses the same raspberry puree and cocoa nibs that Graeter’s has made famous in its signature ice cream. And if the result is anything like a serving of black raspberry chip at Graeter’s… it’ll be delicious.

Common consensus among my peers has always been that black raspberry chip is the best flavor at Graeter’s. But in a statement on their website, the Braxton team says they’re hoping to create more collaborations in the future. That makes sense – Graeter’s has an extensive selection of ice cream flavors which could pair well with beer.

Cincinnati: Attend the Release Party!

On February 3rd, the two companies are releasing Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip Milk Stout at the taproom (27 West 7th Street Covington, Kentucky 41011).

At this launch party, you can be among the first to taste this Cincinnati team-up. Rich Graeter, CEO of Graeter’s, will even be on hand to tap the beer. Plus, there will be free scoops of ice cream while supplies last, which probably won’t be long.

What’s next?

We look forward to whatever collaboration Graeter’s and Braxton Brewing Co. may create together. But even outside of Graeter’s… there are plenty of other Cincinnati foods which have not yet entered the world of craft beer. May I suggest…
