Welcome back to another installment of PorchDrinking’s Weekly Denver Beer Beat. This week, we highlight many of our favorite Denver breweries, eateries and festivals we love almost foolishly. You see, I have no shame on doting on the local craft scene in Denver right now. Here is just the list to prove how awesome the Denver/Fort Collins/Boulder beer terroir is right now. Sip it up, cerevisaphiles.

Wednesday, June 4
Rock Bottom Brewery (Denver) – The Denver location is planning to do a tasting session at 6:00pm, they’ll tap their “Participation Pale Ale”, a heavily hopped session IPA. Get a complimentary glass from 6-6:30pm.
High Hops Brewery (Windsor) – This week at High Hops they will tap a special firkin of “Homebrew Amber Ale” on Wednesday at 5pm.
River North Brewery (Denver) – For today’s Wayward Wednesday tapping, they’ll pour a single keg of Cherry J. Marie. With only 5 gallons, this one’s sure to go fast…first pours at 3pm today!
Hops & Pie (Denver) – Today’s Wednesday special is $2 Craft Can Night from 5pm to close. Also, this weeks artisan sando is a Torta; with agave braised crispy pork, black bean and lime puree, avocado, tomato & jalapeno on house made bolio!
Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) – June is “Fruit Beer Cask Month” at Copper Kettle. Each Wednesday this month, they will feature a different beer highlighting a different fruit. This week’s firkin will be a “Strawberry Basil Blonde”. It will tap around 2pm on June 4th. Ckrepes will also be on hand serving up delicious food.
Very Nice Brewing Co (Nederland) – Starting this Wednesday and for many Wednesdays to come, stop in for their Half Barrel Hump Day tapping. They’ll tap a different half-barrel batch of beer weekly. This week, they have a brew called “Special Lady Friend Saison”, brewed with cherries. Sounds Very Nice to me, indeed.
Front Range Brewing Co (Lafayette) – June will see a handful of small batch releases and the return of a favorite in a BIG batch. On June 4th, FRBC releases Cherry Kombucha Saison (small batch) and also ALTitude Red Ale (big batch).
Thursday, June 5

2nd Annual Highlands Ranch Beer Festival at Civic Green Park (Highlands Ranch)
2:00pm – 6:00pm, VIP 1:00pm. $25 General adv, $35 day of, $40 VIP. Colorado, often called the “Napa Valley of Beer”, is home to over 210 local breweries and brewpubs. In celebration of our beer culture the HRCA proudly presents the 2nd Annual Highlands Ranch Beer Festival. Live music, local and national breweries and lawn games will be present at this event. Unlimited one ounce samples and a souvenir tasting glass is Included in the ticket pricing. Must be 21+ to imbibe in tastings. Individual beer will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the Highlands Ranch Scholarship Fund. The festival is open to all ages; however, only those over 21 can consume alcohol. Proper ID required upon entry.
Jake’s Brew Bar (Littleton) – Jake’s Brew Bar hosts the Breckenridge Brewery 72 Stout & Barrel Aged 72 Stout Sampling – Brava! Pizzeria serving up wood fired pies and Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado sampling folks on their 72 Imperial Stout and a barrel aged version of the 72. Glass giveaway for the first 24 to buy a full pour!
Parry’s Pizza (All Locations) – #ParrysPints – $3 pints of craft beer for the month of June. Check them out and share this with your friends and enemies. Friday, June 6
Verboten Brewing (Loveland) – Prepare for summer with the release of their Watermelon Gose, it’s just like biting into a freshly salted slice of summer!
Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) – Their weekly beer tapping will include a new firkin every Friday. This month features a different Grimm brew with fruit added. This week, sample some of the sweet, beautiful Blueberry goodness. #muthafuckinblueberriesyall
Summit Music Hall (LoDo) – Here we go! Pabst Blue Ribbon presents the PBR Beeramid Building Contest! $10 buy in per person, teams of up to 6 people. Email [email protected] to sign up your team NOW for June 6th in the Moon Room at Summit! When not stacking cans of PBR, make sure to grab a Great Divide, Breckenridge, Ska or Upslope from this well stocked craft beer supporting venue!
Black Shirt Brewing (Five Points) – Join the BSB crew on Friday June 6th to celebrate First Friday! Kristen Bartel, an artist specializing in minimalistic wood carving prints and photographs, will have her works of art displayed throughout the brewery from 2pm-9pm. Additionally, they will have Dave and the Gin Mill Gypsies playing the new Beer Garden from 6pm-8pm. Join BSB for the perfect combination of Red Ale, stark western landscape, and Jazz!
Saturday, June 7
Pateros Creek Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) – Pateros Creek is turning 3! Come to their anniversary party this Saturday, June 7th starting at 3pm. They will have special beer releases, plenty of food, games & music and more. Help them celebrate 3 years. #PaterosTurns3
Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) – You’re invited to the 3rd Annual Running of the Wieners, a Dachshund Race and BBQ Benefit on Saturday, June 7th at 245 S. Madison Avenue in Loveland, CO at 1:30pm. This event is being hosted by Big Beaver, Blown Spoke Hard Cider and Fort Collins Cat Rescue and Spay/Neuter Clinic. Big Beaver will have 14 taps pouring beer, hard cider, wine, root beer, Italian Soda, and water, and be serving pulled pork, brisket, bratwursts, veggie burgers, cornbread, beans, and coleslaw. If you wish to enter your Dachshund in the race sign up online.
Avery Brewing (Boulder) – The 5th Annual Boulder SourFest sold out in minutes. If you were one of the lucky who few that scored a ticket, you’ll be treated to an assortment of top-notch sour beers from all over the country. Each ticket includes 16, 2-oz. pours. Bring some Tums with you and drink a few for me!
Denver Pearl Brewing Co. (Platt Park) – Denver Pearl will be having a Grand Opening Party on June 7th! They will have 11 beers on tap, limited release tapping’s, and prizes!
Sunday, June 8
Parry’s Pizza (Highlands Ranch) – They will be officially christening their new extended patio at the Highlands Ranch location on Sunday, June 8. There will be some super duper special stuff on tap for this event. They do not supply sunscreen, though. So stock up and come soak up—err, repel—those sun beams!

Yak and Yeti Restaurant & Brewpub (Arvada) – Brewery Bike Crawl – June 8th, 2014 – Starting at 11AM a posse of two wheel bandits are planning on starting the crawl at the Yak and Yeti Brewpub, then heading to Odyssey Beerwerks next, via the Ralston Creek Trail. Then from there, they will ride the Clear Creek Trail all the way to Golden, Colorado. They’ll hit the hardest brewery to get to first, Cannonball Creek. From their down Washington to Mountain Toad and finally to Barrels & Bottles which is about 3 blocks from the Clear Creek Trail which brings everyone back home. Cost this year is still FREE. You’ll even get a fun bicycle bumper sticker and a wrist band, which may (or may not) be good for discounts and giveaways at the other breweries. Download the high quality tiff Poster if you’d like to promote it amongst friends or co-workers. Don’t forget to save the dates: July 13th and August 31st for future rides!

Future Events
June 11th – Post Brewing (Lafayette) – Backyard Brewmaster Dinner – Join the Growe Foundation for a summer evening, seated alongside friends at a community table in the backyard of Post Brewing. Executive Chef Brett Smith will be creating some special ”Fresh from the Farm” dishes to accompany the sessionable, down-right delicious brews that Brewmaster Bryan Selders will showcase during the dinner. Tickets include food, wine, beer and gratuity. This is a 21 and older event. All proceeds benefit the Growe Foundations Garden to Table program in BVSD schools. Buy tickets here.
June 14th – River North Brewery (Five Points/Ballpark) – Debuting Saturday, June 14th at 1pm, Oud Bruin is an exercise in balance: tartness from Lacto, funk from Brett, sweet Belgian malts and a lingering wine finish come together to create one of our most anticipated beers yet. As always, draft and bottles will both be available at the release party. Bottles (750ml) will cost $20, limit 2, and they are numbered. While Oud Bruin has been aged in the barrel, it will also develop further in the bottle over time. They encourage you to drink one bottle fresh, and cellar the second. It’s not that often they release a beer like this! Do. Not. Miss it!
June 14th – Boulder Beer Co (Boulder) – Boulder Beer is turning 35 years old. As part of their celebration, they will release “Alakazam!,” a black peach strong ale. Not only that, but they will have a dozen more pilot beers available at their party on Saturday, June 14th at their Pub & Brewery.
June 29th – City Star Brewing (Berthoud) – The 2nd Annual Hops and Harley is a benefit for National Mill Dog Rescue featuring City Star craft beer, live music, and food trucks and of course the chance to meet Harley, the brewery adopted mascot!
