Christmas Classics | Spoetzl Brewery Shiner Holiday Cheer
Dear Santa,
I’ve done my best this year. Sure, I may have had a few bumps in the road on my way to the Nice List, but what can I say? I’m only human. Besides, a few parking tickets never hurt anyone! Look Santa, I want to reason with you. I don’t need anything too fancy, so you can save the diamond earrings and shiny new cars for the real heroes out there. There is really only one thing I want to find in my stocking this year, and it’s a shiny new bottle of Shiner Holiday Cheer from Spoetzl Brewery. Now, they probably don’t sell this one where you’re from up North, so I’ll give you a few pointers to make sure you know what you’re looking for.
The elves over at the brewery in Shiner, Texas have been tinkering away at this festive German Dunkleweizen for years. I hate to say it, but I think this one puts your milk and cookies to shame big guy. Texas peaches, roasted pecans and a myriad of spices all somehow work in perfect harmony to create a well-balanced, medium-bodied dessert beer that’s not overly sweet. With an ABV of 5.4% and just a hint of hop bitterness, this award-winning Christmas miracle is anything but traditional.
It’s beautiful pour is as deep of a red as Rudolph’s nose, with lively carbonation and a thin foam head at the top. If you give it a sniff, you’ll find aromas of clove, caramel and of course peaches. These spicy, peachy flavors dominate the flavor profile, but there are subtle hints of bread and nuts. Combined, these unconventional flavors taste like fresh-baked peach cobbler in a bottle. One the tail-end there is a slight hoppy bite, and it finishes nice and dry.
So, what do you say Mr. Kringle? Think you can manage this one? I’ll warn you, it flies off the shelves pretty fast this time of year. If I were you, I’d hop in the sleigh and make a trip down to Spoetzl ASAP. Merry Christmas, and good luck!
P.S. I promise to pay those parking tickets…eventually.
