Punkin Brown Ale – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

Let it be on the record. As many of my friends know, I usually have nothing to do with brown ales. I have had a few of them here and there, and not one of them has really stood out for me as a solid beer worth buying again. That being said, autumn is coming and I’m starting to see all the fall beers hitting the shelves so I decided to try this out.

Dogfish Head beers have never disappointed me before. So I thought this Punkin Brown ale would be a good first pumpkin beer of the season. Luckily this beer is delicious. The first thing I noticed as soon as I cracked open Punkin, is the extremely festive scent coming out of the bottle. It was somewhat reminiscent of the cinnamon potpourri that you might find at your grandmother’s house in the fall. The beer pours a common copper brown color that you see in most brown ale beers.

Now, I haven’t had a pumpkin beer in a long, long time. So comparing this beer to other beers isn’t going to happen. As expected though, the allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg that is brewed into the beer makes it spicy, but is well balanced thanks to brown sugar and pumpkin ingredients. This beer gives you an overall explosion of flavor that will leave your taste buds happy. Enjoy this beer with good friends, mashed potatoes and turkey.
